    3. Okay you asked for it! My great-great grandmother's name was Jane O'Hale and she was born in Napanee, Ontario in 1833. Most of what I know of her parents, Charles O'Hale and Catherine Duffin, is based on assumptions i.e. that they came to Canada from Co. Antrim around 1820. O'Hale seems to be a very rare name, when I looked through the Tithe Applotment Books at the National Library in Dublin there were only three families listed in all of Ireland - two in Antrim and one in Derry. I have never come across anyone else researching this name. I have encountered many researching Duffin but none that I can positively link to mine. The O'Hale family moved to Morris, Illinois later on, where Jane married my gggrandfather, Martin Hynds. He emigrated from County Westmeath in 1848 and he and his brother Patrick were blacksmiths so I assume this was the family profession back in Ireland - I have not had much luck going farther back in his family tree either. I have determined from the recent discussions on the list re naming patterns that his father was probably named Daniel (both Martin AND his brother Patrick named their first sons Daniel - in fact Patrick named his first TWO sons Daniel - the first one died within a year so the next one was given that name; he also died shortly after birth and then Martin subsequently used the name for his firstborn, so it seems to have been an important family name.) I have not been to the local LDS center yet but if someone with the Griffith's Valuation CD could see if there was a Daniel Hynds (or Hynes, as we have sometimes seen it spelled) in Co. Westmeath, that would be wonderful.
