    3. Scanned from Castles and Stronghouses of Ireland by Mike slater: LOUGHMOE Tipperary 51387 A.M. The round cornered 15th century tower 16m long by 11.8 m wide and 17m high to the wall-walk is a fine specimen despite the south wall being partly defaced. There are four storeys with vaults over the cellar and third storey and the ends are carried up to contain fifth storey rooms at wall-walk level, the east end being thickened above hall level by means of an arcade. There are or were machicolated sections in the middle of each side. The second storey contain the lord's room and has a fine 17th century. fireplace with the initials of one of the Purcells. the last of whom, Colonel Nicholas, died in 1722. There are rooms in the end walls, that at fourth storey level at the west end being the full width of the tower and having angle loops, whilst the SE corner contains a prison high up. In the early 17th century a 26m long mansion of four storeys with large upper mullion and transom windows was added to the north side. Beside the tower the mansion has a porch which faced the former bawn to the east and which has shot holes in the outer doorway jamb and arch. A large fireplace at ground level adjoins it. Clasping the NW corner is a large five storey wing which seems to have been divided into two rooms at each level. The wall-walks of the mansion have parapets with the middle part of each merlon made into a semi-circle.
