BJ Hinshaw at hinshaw@cyberzane.net asks: >Is there a way to narrow down where a person came from in Ireland? >Two Scottish censuses said he (Arthur) was born in Ireland, but gave no >indication where. Neither Arthur nor Hood (his mother's maiden name) seem to >be very common in Ireland, so I'm hoping I can track them down (esp since >someone born as late as 1846 might actually have made it into the records >somewhere). BJ..The Griffith's Valuation was taken in Ireland 1848-1864..The Index of that Valuation shows households headed by 119 HOOD families and 233 ARTHUR families. HOOD appeared most often in Co.Antrim (34),Tyrone (27),Down (14), Donegal (12) and Derry (8). ARTHUR was most common in Cos.Tyrone(92),Clare(28),Derry(24),Antrim(18), Fermanagh(16) and Donegal(7). Both family names appear in many counties but usually no more than four times. Good luck in trying to figure where to look....Jim Good Luck and God Bless You JJKenny_Houston_Texas@Compuserve.com(70444.222) JJ.Kenny@BBS.Hal-PC.org
