    3. Ellen Byrne responded to a query by Peter J Browne about how to answer a posting without quoting the whole thing. This is particularly important to subscribers who have to pay per byte for the contents of the mailing lists. I care two because I am getting tired of getting a whole issue of a mailing list which consists almost entirely of quotes from previous issues. Here is my answer on reply management for those who receive them through e-mail: 1) If you get the lists as individual messages [FIANNA-L], hit Reply and choose to Quote the message. Then highlight and delete all parts that don't help to identify what you are answering. Keep it short. This technique will send the message back to the list but without too much extraneous material. Some services such as AOL will allow you to highlight just the part you want to quote and then hit Reply and that is the only part that will be quoted in your answer. If you want to send a copy to the sender, highlight and copy that to the TO: section also. 2) If you get the messages as a Digest, don't hit reply. Just highlight the message you are replying to, copy it and drop it in a new mail form. Delete (Ctrl-X) the addresses [FIANNA-L@rootsweb.com, and <sender>] and copy them (Ctrl-C) into the TO: area and the topic into the Subject area. It takes much less time to do this than to tell you about it. Then answer it. I used to get these lists through a bulletin board, but now I find it much easier and faster to get them as Digests through e-mail. Also, if I find a message in a digest that I want to save as a whole, I just copy it and send it back to myself, or copy it to a word processing document.
