    3. Those of you researching County Limerick ancestors may lose a valuable research source. I have been informed that the Limerick Archives, the heritage unit for Co. Limerick, may be closing due to lack of funding. Seems they get subsidies from both the city of Limerick and the county to keep their business going because the fees they charge do not cover their expenses and now both the city and the county are having trouble balancing their budgets and looking to cut the subsidies. I can speak personally about the help I have received from the Archives. I stopped in there when in Limerick City in 2001 and within a couple of hours they had a report for me. I asked for a marriage and while they didn't find the marriage, they found a number of the children and gave me all the names, dates and places of their baptisms and only changed me for the marriage lookup which was 10 punts at the time. Margaret McBride, a genealogist at the archives who is hoping to receive some supporting letters that she can turn over to the county and city governments. If you have had a good experience with this organization and would like to help, you can send a letter to her at: Limerick Archives & Limerick Ancestry The Granary Michael St Limerick, Ireland FYI, their website is: http://www.limerickancestry.com/index.htm -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
