Slainte, Hugh The McLELLAN (McClelan, MacLelan, etc.) line. Peter McLellan, b. c-1735 in Scotland. (Rothsay ?) A McElman genealogy says the Peter McElman family and the McLellan family left for Londonderry Ireland in 1745, (near end of the Jacobite Rebellion) They lived in Londonderry 'til 1755 then emigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Another version is that they came with a group of Ulster/Irish under a Colonel Alexander McNutt, arriving in Halifax, 9 Oct,1761, in the vessel "Hopewell". In either case he made his way to what is now Great Village, Nova Scotia and wintered there "in the basement of a burnt-out Acadian house with a cow for company". This date seems consistant with his marraige date and the 1770 census of Londonderry, Nova Scotia. He married twice in Canada and had a large family. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------- McKITRICK, Co Down. William McKITRICK, b. - c1770, d. c1815 (Downpatrick, Co. Down) m. Anne ?? , b. c1774, d. c1851 They had 6 children from 1800 to 1815. (1) John, (2) Patrick (1801) m. Mary Simpson, (3) Robert (c1809) m. Jane ?, (4)George, (1811-1851) m. Rachel ? (5) James (c1813) m. Isabella Stevenson. (6) William, m. Isabella ? James/Isabella (5) came to Canada in 1850. They had seven children born in Ireland. He is my wifes Great Grandfather. Her Grandfather, Patrick was born in Canada. The McKitricks are said to have come to Ireland from Scotland in the early 1600's (plantation) to Lord Dufferans estate near Killyleagh, Co. Down. Some, it appears, got to Downpatrick later. Im looking for info on earlier generations of these McKitricks - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------ FETTERS, Co. Londonderry Marjory FETTERS, b c-1770, (likely Londonderry but maybe Co. Donegal) Married William Doherty, c-1790. William died c-1818. Marjory brought her five youngest to Canada c-1819. The eldest son, Isaac, had come about 1815. N.B.
