MY GGGGRANDFATHER THOMAS ARPIN, came to South Africa via London abt.1833-1839 from Cork or Dublin. He was 19yrs old in 1939 and was a Farm Labourer in Caledon in the Cape. He came over as part of a scheme set up by the British Government to aid Destitute children. This society was called "friend's of the children society" and was chaired by Rev.John Phillip and the Secretary was a James Rose- Innes.
