The song "Rose of Tralee" was written by William Pembroke Mulchinock, the son of a wealthy Tralee merchant, Michael Mulchinock and Margaret McCann Mulchinock, for Mary O'Connor of Brogue Lane in Tralee ca 1843. The Mulchinocks lived in West Villa. Mary's mother was an O'Sullivan from Green Lane. Her father was a brogue maker. Mary was the nurse for William's sister, Maria's children.
