Dia daoibh! In VU we are working on a newspaper lesson and "the ploy". It is really very interesting, but as I was mailing my homework to the group, I thought that some of the rest of you might be interested in the following URL so I mailed my homework off to the Fian (in order to spare the entire list from reading my homework.) Briefly "the ploy" involves writing letters to newspapers in spots where your ancestors once lived in order to find relatives. The following is not a newspaper URL, but is I think a site which would be perfect for a variation on the ploy: http://www.esearch.ie/index.html E-Search E-Search is a spam protected Irish email directory. You can search for ppl with your surnames here. E-Search will find ppl with the surname of interest. It gives you their address so you can find out if they might be from near the place your ancestors emigrated from. That way those of us with common surnames won't annoy everybody in Ireland by writing to them asking about possible relatives. This is not strictly a genealogical site so you may find ppl who are not fellow researchers, but they might enjoy hearing from you anyway and might even have some useful information. Slan go foill!
