    2. HI Tom, My post was in reply to someone that was interested in a paid subcription to Genealogy.com. It was in reference to their $14.99 a month International passenger and records collection. I just found a family on the German's to America database. But no luck with the Keegan's from Ireland. I have also found Keefe's from county Cork for my sister's tree. And found some records from Ireland that could be useful for her. If you want to subcribe, just go to genealogy.com and click on International Passenger records collection. It will give you the option to sign up and so forth. Or you can go to Ancestrial findings website and they have a link for a 14 day free trial for this collection. Not sure of the web address. Maybe someone else knows. Hope that helps, Becky

    2. HI, I have used the Paaenger lists and found a few people, but not mine. I looked for my sisters in-law ancestor's and found what I think is them. But mine can't be found. the collection is good, and worth it to have for a month. Even if you cancel after the month, you may find something. They have census records for 1841/1851 for some Counties in Ireland. I found my sisters realtives on one for Cork. It even had the picture image of the original census page. Not bad. Some stuff was not so great. Like the Flax growers list. Worth the 14.99. I would say get it for a month. Happy hunting, Becky

    2. Mara Grey
    3. Hi, Quite a while ago I found a James MIler who emigrated in the 1840's on a passenger list CD-ROM that was posted free for a while. Unfortunately, I don't remember the website and couldn't afford to buy it. I've gotten several searches from various people, but never found another one in the 1840's. Definitely one in 1854, however, but not mine. And the spelling is definitely M-I-L-E-R, rather unusual, so easy to spot when there. Could anyone help? Thanks, Mara

    3. Has anyone one used the Genealogy.com passenger list and found family? It's $14.95 a month and you can cancel in 7 days and get refunded if you don't find anything. Trying to convince myself to use it, as I can't get to the FHC. There census are good, have used them better than ancestry.com. Thanks Lorraine

    3. To add another twist to the multiple name variations - My Aunt Nora whom I've been searching for the last 30 years - found marriage record under Ann; baptismal record of children under Eleanore; family called her Nora. Just now looked at a death certificate of a cousin of my Dad's (wasn't able to figure out how he was related to my Dad until today). The death certificate of Patrick Kelly lists his mother as Helen Dougherty (in Anaconda, Montana they anglicized Ellen to Helen so that it didn't sound Irish since they had suffered a lot of prejudism before arriving in Anaconda.) I've looked at that death certificate many times. It even listed birthdate of Patrick Kelly as August 20, 1875. Was not able to find his birth in the indexes for 1873,1874,1875 or 1876. Just returned from Ireland and was able to look at the church records in Swinford, County Mayo - just checked and his actual birthdate was August 6, 1871!!! So don't give up. If you are certain of your facts, you really never know where you might actually find your records. Needless to say I am quite happy that I have finally found my Great Great Aunt Nora. With her marriage record info in 1864 I can now find the names of her parents who were my Great Great Grandparents! Very happy in California! 3. Also used interchangeably with the names Eoghan, Eugene and Owen is John, so while looking through records if you see any of the above names they are the same. Also today some are naming their sons with a more modern way of spelling but the name is pronounced the same as Owen - Eoin. And some people thought John was a plain and umcomplicated name! 3. How bout that! So is Owen the pronunciation in Irish Gaelic? In Welsh Gaelic, it is spelled the same way but pronounced Eugene. I had a problem with those two names when I was doing research on my family. My great-grandfather born in Meath, Ireland was Owen which is actually a Welsh name. During the famine he went to Wales where my grandfather was born. The birth certificate and the church records listed my great-grandfather's name as Eugene but we knew his name was Owen. It was a Welsh genealologist who was doing research for me who solved the mystery.
