Hello everyone, Here is a site that has a long list of ships that left Ireland. It includes passenger names as well. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Parthenon/5341/shiplist.htm Sincerely, Janet JCowan@prodigy.net
Does anyone have an email addy for the Allen County Library. The email link at the site doesn't look like a valid address to me. Gail
Bob, I know the feeling. I attribute all this to recently acquiring a pair of progressive bifocals. Several months ago I wrote a letter to someone explaining how to open an attached file, and I referred to the icon as an @ symbol. DH looked at my letter and said, "Good grief Gail that is not an @, that is a paper clip!" I am one of those ppl who didn't need glasses when I was younger so I have found it a trifle difficult to become accustomed to them. I really like them now though except for using a microfilm reader. About a month ago my Hamblen Co.TN film arrived and I rushed over to my neightbor and genealogical buddy's to read it. Pretty soon my neck was killing me. I couldn't figure out what was wrong until my friend told me it was my bifocals. I have decided that I need one of those readers that they have at the FHC or my genealogy society that casts the picture down in front of you!! However, I am afraid that the price might be prohibitive, and it might just take up more room in the office than we could spare! (Big Grin) We have just gotten done reorganizing the office, and Bruce brought me in and showed me the fiche reader (previously lying on its side on a chair) sitting in its own little space. Furthermore I am no longer sitting here hemmed in by two printers and a scanner and I can actually move my elbows. Maybe I should just count my blessings. BBFN Gail (possum)
Hi Gail: I apologize. My only excuse is that my glasses must be dirty. I didn't see the clip symbol. I used a different excuse last night during Fian chat (I said then that I must be going blind). I will be running out of excuses pretty soon. Bob
Dear Bob, The forwarded msg was sent as an attached file. I don't know how Netscape or even separate email programs work except for Eudora Light which I once used. Anyway if you are an Internet Explorer user you can tell if there is an attached file since a little paper clip icon will appear next to your message. Click on the msg twice. And then click on the little envelope icon on the bottom of the msg. Then Voila! you can read your message. Gail O'Possum

researching my irish roots in county cavan. looking for info on my g-g-grandfather, bernard francis martin. b. 1825, somewhere in county cavan, possibly around bawnboy. nothing known about family in ireland, except that bernard may have had at least one brother, named james. both left for america in 1849 aboard ship isaac newton from liverpool to philadelphia. any help greatly appreciated. thanks mike martin
Remember that this is a public list serve available to both eager genealogists and to unscrupulous individuals. Many banks, pension accounts, social security, children's educational funds, etc. use your mother's maiden name as a security check. Those of you who are posting 20th century names and dates here, or on family web pages are putting yourselves and your relatives at financial risk. You are giving the scam artists and computer whizzes easy access to whatever you have, be it a little or a lot. The Internet provides access to wonderful information in faraway places, new relatives, and helpful researchers. I can now post queries in all those counties where my ancestors lived as they zigzagged across the globe ... I could never afford to join every genealogical society where an ancestor lived. Unfortunately the pedophiles, con artists and other unsavory members of our species also find this medium a great place to do business. ==== TheShipsList Mailing List ==== To Subscribe to TheShipsList send a message to TheShipsList-L-request@rootsweb.com Leave Subject Line Blank * Put Only: SUBSCRIBE in body of message

Hi, I have been researching the family of David and Mary Bradley for a while now. They left Donegal and came to America in 1867. They lived in a place called Carrigans Village in Donegal. I am trying to find out if anyone knows where to write for a birth Certificate or record in Donegal. The problem may be that when they left Ireland, there village was considered in Northern Ireland and not the Republic of Ireland. It wasn't untill a later border change that Carrigans village became part of the Republic of Ireland. Anyone have any ideas on where to go from here? Thanks. Kay B.

This is important and valuable! And if you're concerned about viruses, CIAC is a good place to get info! A lot of their bulletins won't be about your particular platform (computer type), but when the one that is yours comes by, it's a God-send! Directions for getting on their email list (about two bulletins per week over the past six months..) are at bottom of page. Don't be frightend by all the governmentalese...they quite happily send these to anyone who signs on to the list! This references some of the best data about in re: "SPAM"! Since VU students have all been sent to post to newsgroups, we might well be finding someone preparing some spam to send our way... thus the timeliness of this message! ;) peace. chirho >[ For Public Release ] >-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > > __________________________________________________________ > > The U.S. Department of Energy > Computer Incident Advisory Capability > ___ __ __ _ ___ > / | /_\ / > \___ __|__ / \ \___ > __________________________________________________________ > > INFORMATION BULLETIN > > E-Mail Spamming countermeasures > Detection and prevention of E-Mail spamming > >October 20, 1997 19:00 GMT Number I-005 >______________________________________________________________________________ >PROBLEM: Unsolicited E-Mail. > >PLATFORM: All platforms which accept E-Mail from the Internet > >DAMAGE: Loss of user productivity and reduction of availability of > resources. > >SOLUTION: Follow the guidelines outlined below. > >______________________________________________________________________________ >VULNERABILITY Programs which implement this type of malicious activity >ASSESSMENT: are in widespread use.
