    1. [FIANNA-L] Brick Wall - Sort Of
    2. My brick wall is not a person, but trying to determine parish, townland, etc. My father was born in Belfast, 1913. The address is Aughrim Street, which is in the Sandy Row area, close to City Centre, off Donegal Road. Could someone please help me with the Barony, Civil Parish, Townland, Poor Law Union, etc, etc, before I go crazy trying to find the info on the Census film. I would also like to know where Little May St (1879), Joy St (1865) and Catherine St (1866) are. The birth record I have lists Joy Street as Cromac, but I don't understand what that means. The city for all these is Belfast, Co Antrim. Thanks for any help!! Mary Kleindienst, IBSSG

    1. [FIANNA-L] Research Question
    2. Hi- I'm new to the list and new to Irish Genealogy. I've recently learned it's possible one of my ancestors came from Ennis, County Clare. I've spent several days searching through pertinent web sites, but I'm confused on one issue. Do researchers here suggest using for-fee researchers in Ireland (ex. local Heritage Centers), or have you had just as much luck on your own with records through Salt Lake, etc.? Appreciate your input. Thanks, Tracie Tlblackmn@aol.com

    1. [FIANNA-L] Brick wall methods (was re: Let's get things a jumping!)
    2. Seth and/or BJ Hinshaw
    3. Is there a way to narrow down where a person came from in Ireland? Here's why I'm asking: my gggrandfather Edward James Arthur m. Jane Keddie in 1867 in Galashiels, Roxburgh, Scotland. On the marriage certificate, his age was given as 21and his parents were listed as Edward Arthur (occupation bookseller) and Mary Hood. So, he was probably born about 1846. I tried looking for him in Scotland-- no luck. So then I looked for him in England (as family lore said that part of the family was originally from England). I found a birth record for an Edward James Arthur in 1846 in Surrey to an Edward Arthur and Caroline Seymour. Decided it probably wasn't him, so I kept looking. Two Scottish censuses said he was born in Ireland, but gave no indication where. Neither Arthur nor Hood (his mother's maiden name) seem to be very common in Ireland, so I'm hoping I can track them down (esp since someone born as late as 1846 might actually have made it into the records somewhere). Any ideas/hints/clues appreciated. Thanks very much, BJ Hinshaw hinshaw@cyberzane.net ---------- > When the list is as quiet as this, it makes my job so easy ! 3. Hi all, I have been doing some investigating, and found great news for all of us Irish researchers. There is a NEW and IMPROVED IrelandGenWeb project! I know one of the project coordinators (via the Internet) and know her to do fantastic jobs on anything she undertakes. She is also the county coordinator foe Somerset Co, PA, among other things and a very active RootsWeb volunteer! She also has the Scotland page. Here is part of a note I received from her: "FYI, The new IrelandGenWeb project is located at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlwgw/ Frederick Ramont's GenTree Ireland site is located at: http://www.gentreegenealogy.com/irel.htm Cheers! Please send in your most wanted, >brick walled, longest desired ancestor, and/or your research questions in >general. ....... Okay, here goes. Edward CUSHNAGHAN born County Antrim, Ireland, March 1830. Parents: Edward CUSHNAGHAN and Mary CULLEN. Brother:Daniel, born 1838, County Antrim. Edward (1830-1921) came to the US in November 1951, on the ship William Rathbone. Daniel (1838) came to US in 1866. Trying to find marriage of Edward (1) and Mary CULLEn, and from what parish/township they came from in County Antrim. After their arrival in US, name changes to CUSHMAN and by 1870, both brothers using the name CUSHING. Have found CUSHNAGHAN's in a couple of places on the Antrim census....but no Edward. Same for Tithe. Roman Catholic in US. Interesting twist: Edward CUSHNAGHAN and Mary_____, with Children, Edward age 3 and Jane age 1 arrived in Canada in 1833. Don't know if it's the same family, but interesting connections. I am in contact with Ron CUSHMAN in Ontario who is descendant of the Canadian Edward....and I'm descendant of the US Edward. Canadian branch are Presbyterian. There are other interesting connections between the two families...babies born in one country when can't be found in the other...etc. Process of elimination rather than facts. Help! Any suggestions welcome!! Peg Buckman DavePeg@ix.netcom.com .... http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/7401/

    3. Hello Irish Researchers, My GGrandparents conducted a Grocery Store on the Corner of Liverpool Street and Kingsland Park Avenue, DUBLIN - in 1870. Liverpool Street was later renamed (in the mid- 1870's) as Portobello Road. The address today is 1 Portobello Road, South Dublin which is now the location of a Restaurant known as "THORNTONS". I visited this "ancestral site" in 1995! I would appreciate it if someone could tell me the name/address of the nearest Catholic Church and the Convent School in this area of Dublin. Also, are there any school records archived at this time and by whom? I realise that this may be a "tall order". Wrote to the parish in Kilkenny and was told no marriage records prior to 1845 and no death records prior to 1923 is there any where else I can look. This is what I have so far but I''m at a dead end without dates or more information * Michael Fennelly married to Catherine Dwyer of Bricana (no other information) * Nicholas Fennelly (b. 1848) married to Mary Hollohan, no record of marriage or when they left Ireland (if they left together) * children of Nicholas and Mary settled in Downingtown, Pa. * found children of Michael and Catherine, from Grangefertagh * James Fennelly (b.1885, d.1953) married Helen Connelly (1888-1927) no information on Helen, believe she was raised by Nuns in a convent in West Chester, Pa. had a sister Mae. James worked in the Paper Mills in Downingtown, Helen died in childbirth. Hopefully someone can make a connection or has some idea where I can go from here. Thanks Sharon

    3. Hi Joe and Laura, My McCormick's are from County Clare. My gr.grandfather Francis McCormick arrived in Australia in the 1860's, his brother Cornelius was already here before him. His father was Thomas McCormick and his mother was Mary Lynch who died in the 1850's soon after having her last child.. Thomas remarried three months later and then started another family. Not enough food for all, so some siblings came to Australia and some went to America. Later Francis brought his half sister Brigid the daughter of his father and second wife ----Pepper/Peppard to Australia. My grandmother used to correspond with one of the siblings in America but she died 40 years ago and no one can remember the name from America. One aunty thinks it was Hardy or Harding or something like that but it is probably nowhere near it. 3. Okay, guys and gals, it's all there (except the forms, we still nip back to Geocities for those :) until I understand the way they're done on rootsweb). Many pages have been renamed and/or placed into subdirectories, so chirho won't get so lost!! But they seem, to ME at least, to make sense, and I hope you'll be able to find your pages :) Of course, you'll want to redo your bookmarks! Now that we have a big new home on a faaaaassssst server, no cost and no popups, we should be getting out and letting folks know about our growing resource :) Please, can you think of this when helping others? And maybe blow a horn for it now and then!! ;) And of course, we do plan to grow, right? Everyone working hard on their projects (those in active fians)? Anyone else want to donate data that we can share with the genealogy community? chirho will code it, as long as it's not copyrighted by anyone other than you ;) and is also working on a BIG project on the counties. Changes will continue to occur as we try to balance streamlined download with pleasant to the eye pages. :) The music will be back, after chirho finds out a way to have it available without downloading willy-nilly - since that bothers a lot of folks. As you browse through our spiffed-up, newly refurbished, moved home, any links that don't work and any other problems that you find need to be sent to chirho, so that they can be repaired :) It is OUR site, let's all take part in it and help make it great! Oh, and where is it? Just check the last line in the sig below!!! :) Peace.
