    3. Hi Ellen, I did take a look at the Spinning Wheel Entitlement and didn't find them. That was back when I first started so possibly I should look again. Sometimes it is easy to miss something. I haven't looked at the others as far as I can remember. Thank you for the suggestions. Slan. 1. [FIANNA-L] Research suggestions needed
    2. Louise Croyden
    3. Greetings from Canada, I would very much appreciate some searching strategies for my BRINKMAN family who emigrated from County Sligo to Canada in 1842. I’m at brick wall stage right now. :-( In the Householders’ Index for County Sligo, there was only one reference to the surname Brinkman in one parish in Sligo which equates to at least one family or more living in that parish. On the actual Tithe Applotment film, I found the BRINKMAN family in CARROWNLEAM TOWNLAND, Sligo County, Leyny Barony, Killoran Parish, Tobercurry Union, Ireland. My g-g-grandfather, William Brinkman, was born in Sligo c1790. Some of the BRINKMANs married into the STEWART/STUART and MULLIGAN families from the same area. By the time the Griffith Valuation tax was done in the 1850's, there was no mention of Brinkman in any parish in Sligo County. Since at least four lines of Brinkmans emigrated around 1842, there may have been no members of the family with the Brinkman surname left in Sligo County after that time (unless there were daughters who had married and stayed there) I also found a pocket of Brinkmans in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is possible, since the surname is so rare, that these people may be related in some way but I have no proof of this. I have hypothesized that the movement may have been from County Down to Sligo, then later, emigration to Canada. There were, however, 2 Brinkman families at the time of the Griffith in County Down. Could someone tell me whether the Brinkman surname was referenced in any other counties at when the Griffith Valuation was done? I checked the Matheson Report and Brinkman is not listed at all which only tells me, if the name existed over there around 1890, there were fewer than 5 births. The name does not appear to be Irish. I have wondered if the name was German/Prussian or Dutch in origin. Would anyone have any ideas of types of documents I could check in order to trace a line back to Germany, for instance. I have looked at some of the books with lists of Palatines but the name has not shown up. They always indicated they were Irish in all legal documents I have found in Canada. Since there do not seem to be many surviving records for the area of Sligo in which I am interested, would there be other levels of documents I could check for information about this family? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Louise (Henderson) Croyden Burlington, Ontario, Canada lcroyden@worldchat.com

    3. For new list members, I am listing my great grandparents for whom I am searching info on their parents, siblings and specific dates and places of birth in Ireland. John CORCORAN,dob about 1829 in Kilkenny, Ireland. He married Anna Stack on May 27, 1860 in Old St. Joseph's Church in Philadelphia, PA.They had three children: John Martin, Catherine and Joseph Aloysius(my grandfather) The family lived at several addresses-principal address was 217 Delancey Street(formerly Union Street) Philadelphia. George CONCANNON dob about 1827 in County Donegal, Ireland. He married Isabella SWEENEY(dob about 1829 in Ireland) about 1850- family lore indicates Wilmington, Delaware. Their nine children were all born in Philadelphia- the first Cecelia Ann was born 12/14/1851; the other children were James, John Patrick, Mary Josephine,George Edward, Isabella. Thomas Joseph, Catherine Philomena(my grandmother) and Edward. George CONCANNON'S PARENTS were James and Cecelia CONCANNON. James CONCANNON was a baker in Donegal, Ireland and dies before the famly came to the U.S.. George had been a school teacher in Donegal. George with his mother Cecelia and brothers Edward, Patrick Joseph and Thomas, and sister Catherine came to the U.S. about 1845/50. The CONCANNON family lived at 324 Spruce Street. My grandparents Joseph A. CORCORAN and Catherine P. CONCANNON were married in Old St. Mary's Church, Philadelphia, PA. ON 11/25/1896. They had eight children; Kathryn de Sales, Joseph A., Jr, Isabella Anna, George Concannon (my father-dob 06/20,1903), Anna Marie, Edward Joseph, Francis and Dorothy. I would be very interested in any family connections in Ireland and in Philadelphia. 3. Here list , anyone that can help her? *********** Hi Laura! I hope that things continue to be quiet for you, as my problem is a real humdinger! My ggrandfather, Robert Gavagan, son of Elizabeth (Burns) and Thomas Gavagan, claimed on his naturalization papers (Boston, 1852), that he'd been born in 1830 in Boyle, County Roscommon, Ireland. County Roscommon Heritage & Genealogy Ctr. ($45.) reported that there was no record of his having been born there. (Did Robert lie about this?) My second befuddlement is that I recently received information that my other ggrandfather, John G. Sullivan, born Dec. 1824, son of Catherine (?) and Jeremiah Sullivan, lived in Kenmare, County Kerry. A kind person on the Internet offered to do a look-up on John G. for me, and sent word that there was no record of him having been born there. I hope that these two relatives of mine - one with the most common of names, the other with a name spelled so that no one ever heard of it - will present an interesting enough challenge for you to want to check them out. I fervently hope so! I'll hope to hear from you. Many thanks! Fran Weeks - Southeastern Massachusetts, USA fifi@pop.ma.ultranet.com
