    1. Re: [FIANNA-L] organizing my files
    2. I solved the same problem by getting a file cabinet and frames for hanging files. There are now available 3-ring binders that hang in these files. I have some labelled with a family name, some with a site name, some are labelled "to do soon" and "to do later" etc. When someone calls or writes with a question, I go to the appropriate file, and the answer is at my fingertips. These are also very handy for taking with you if you are doing research away from home. When I wanted to reserch the O'Gara family at the LDS Center, I simply picked up the O'Gara binder and took it with me, confident that all I knew about the O'Garas wwas in it. There are some things I have filed copies of in more than one binder because it pertains to more than one area of research. I also have hanging folders labelled with each person's name that I correspond with. This takes some effort to set up, but the results were worth it. Good luck with whatever you try. Seabhacc

    3. Hello Folks, Here's my brick wall;I hope someone can drill through it. My great-great grandfather Timothy O'Connell took out his Declaration of Intent in Nov. 1847 in Niagara County, NY, and was naturalized at the same place in 1852. He resided in Niagara Falls at the time. He appears in the 1850 census as unmarried. His wife was Ellen Moylan. They had two children, John, b. 1853 and Ellen b. 1855. I believe Ellen died shortly thereafter, and the family came west to Winnebago Co., Wisconsin. I cannot locate a marriage record at the church where the children's baptism records were found (St. Mary's- Niagara Falls). Sponsor's name given as Maria Moylen. Believe Ellen's mother's name was also Ellen. William Branchford was also a sponsor and accompanied them to Wisconsin. I'd also appreciate suggestions as to where he might have come from in Ireland (citizenship papers only give Ireland:( ) Any suggestions? Thanks. Mike Dellger

    3. Re what to do with all the loose papers. I have been collecting them for over 30 yrs-many yrs ago I printed 3 or 4 books-a kind soul indexed some of them-they are the easiest. Two yrs ago I had boxes of loose papers-since I am at an age as to what will my kids do with these- I started typing them on the computer, printing in booklets, sending them to LDS, Dar, Sutro libraries and any others that might pertain to the particular families area. I sometimes send copies free, even pay the postage to anyone working on those lines. Many of the booklets have helped a lot of people..lots of people helped me over the years. Have just started using the Family Tree Maker thanks to a cousin I found on the internet - but in the booklets also I have various family group sheets, etc. Hope this gives you an idea. Good luck. 2. The reply from Ellen Byrne - telling of her typing information and making it available to anyone researching the name is very true. Today I received a package in the mail with a wealth of information regarding the Byrnes family, and specific pages that provide information on our Byrne connections in Narraghmore, Co. Kildare. She is doing a great service by assembling this data for the use of others. Pauline

    3. Jim Carey wrote on Tue 9 June 1998 09:39:19 EDT regarding Wexford locations. Reply: In Donal F Begley's "Handbook on Irish Genealogy" (1984) he has reprinted maps from "A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland" - Samuel Lewis (1837). I have referred specifically to the above and to other sources. KILCONE - There is a "parish" location of KILCOAN which is situated adjacent to a then existing Lough/Lake ? Today the place would be best described as being directly north of the Burrow of Balteigue on Balteigue Bay. There is/was a Castle by the same name nearby on the most southern part of that coast, Crossfarnague Point (aka as Forlorn Point). It is also spelt as Crossfarnage Point. FACUINSHANE - There is a Tacumshane "parish" location on the northern shore of Tacumshane Lough/lake. It is spelt as Tacumshin Lake in a later map (1900) You know where this particular lake is. BALLEVALDEN - Ballyvaldon is how it appears in my maps. However in James Ryan's "Irish Records" it is shown optionally as Ballyvald(e/o)n. The place would be about 2-3 miles north of Blackwater & Blackwater Harbour - but slightly inland from the coast. My thoughts are that there would have been only one school in the area at this period. I do not know the denomination. CHURCH/SCHOOL QUERIES - I send this in a separate post. FAROUAMILLE - You've got me "stumped" with this one! Will you kindly confirm the spelling. Do you have any idea at all where this place is? Is it on a County Border for instance? What specific years are we looking at? WEXFORD DIRECTORY - I am unable to advise you on this. I'll be in touch but in the meantime don't hesitate to contact me direct. Good hunting. I can click on HTML or plain text. There are many other options. I always send email to the person and not to the list when answering. Many people answer to the list and then everyone gets it and you have to use the delete key. I have been gone for 5 days and had 179 email messages when I returned today. Most are just deleted. Only about 8 pertain to me. Thanks for your time and good hunting. Stanley Clark >clark@efn.org<

    3. Ellen Byrne responded to a query by Peter J Browne about how to answer a posting without quoting the whole thing. This is particularly important to subscribers who have to pay per byte for the contents of the mailing lists. I care two because I am getting tired of getting a whole issue of a mailing list which consists almost entirely of quotes from previous issues. Here is my answer on reply management for those who receive them through e-mail: 1) If you get the lists as individual messages [FIANNA-L], hit Reply and choose to Quote the message. Then highlight and delete all parts that don't help to identify what you are answering. Keep it short. This technique will send the message back to the list but without too much extraneous material. Some services such as AOL will allow you to highlight just the part you want to quote and then hit Reply and that is the only part that will be quoted in your answer. If you want to send a copy to the sender, highlight and copy that to the TO: section also. 2) If you get the messages as a Digest, don't hit reply. Just highlight the message you are replying to, copy it and drop it in a new mail form. Delete (Ctrl-X) the addresses [FIANNA-L@rootsweb.com, and <sender>] and copy them (Ctrl-C) into the TO: area and the topic into the Subject area. It takes much less time to do this than to tell you about it. Then answer it. I used to get these lists through a bulletin board, but now I find it much easier and faster to get them as Digests through e-mail. Also, if I find a message in a digest that I want to save as a whole, I just copy it and send it back to myself, or copy it to a word processing document. 1. [FIANNA-L] County Wexford Locations
    2. I'm looking for any assistance anyone can provide in locating several entities in County Wexford. My GGGrandfather married a lady from "Kilcone", but I can't seem to faind any Kilcone in County Wexford. Could it be in another County or possible it no longer exists------ the marriage was in the early 1800's. Also, my GGrandfather was educated at "the church school" [so our family history says] at Facuinshane in County Wexford, and I can't seem to locate that place either? Any advice? Is it perhaps not a town, but some other entity? My GGrandmother was also educated at "the church school" in Ballevalden in County Wexford. Is the correct spelling Ballevalden or Ballyvalden? And would there be more than one church school there? I'm told she was Protestant, but am unsure of what denomination or church they might have attended or belonged to there? Any ideas? And finally, my GGrandmothers parents were from Farouamille in County Wexford---- any suggestions on where that might be located or "does it still exist"? I guess the good news is that they lived in Hardiglass/Hardyglass [I've seen it spelled both ways] and I found that in southern County Wexford between Lake Tacumshin and Lady's Island Lake, so at least I know where some of them are from. One final question----- can anyone tell me where I might purchase [via Internet] a copy of the upcoming new issue of the County Wexford 1998-99 phone book? Any and all responses greatly appreciated. /S/ Jim Carey Washington, DC

Later, however, someone else had another one listed, similar, but different. I can send it to you if you would like it.
