did you try www.ancestry.com they just posted a nc death index and you can always the social security death index depending upon how far you want to go back. Desiree The next time Iam at the FHC, if you give me names, I'll see if I can run them for NC info.
Seabhacc, I have something like that and it definately helps. I also like the idea of the cross-referencing. I am thinking of getting some 3x5 cards to write down all of the things I need to do, things to double check, things I've heard, etc., Desiree
Could you give me just a quick indication of what "internment papers" are? I haven't heard that term yet, although I have been doing Irish research for over three years. I am still learning and would appreciate your reply. Sharon Carberry Researching Carberry, Donnellan, Tynan, Hehir, Cunneen, and Connell

I have received copies of the marriage entries for several family members. If you are interested in this timeframe, however small, I will look up to see if there is a name. There are also a couple of entries from Canada as well. Providence, RI - 1871 (July) Providence, RI 1881 (part of March - part of April) Lincoln, RI 1891 (October/November) Desiree
I received a copy of my 2nd great grandfather's internment papers and low and behold, his mother's maiden name was listed! Big cheers went up in this household! Okay, does this ring a bell? Bernard O'CONNOR (b) est 1805-1835 and Catherine (Kate) BIRMINGHAM (b) 1805-1835, both born in Ireland, had at least Bernard and Elizabeth O'CONNOR, both of Ireland. Bernard (b) about 1840 (d) December 23, 1920, and Elizabeth both died in Rhode Island. Bernard married Ellen Frances AHEARN and Elizabeth married Thomas NOTT. Does this ring any bells for anyone? I have a notation that Bernard (son) - B2 as we call him, was born in County Cork but I don't know how reliable that is...I also know that Ellen AHEARN was from Tipperary. Hope something rings a bell for someone. Desiree

Paper may be fragile, but reading it requires no hardware. Have read stories about millions of U.S. gov't recordsoriginally filed on early mainframes, which now no one can access.

I use a hanging file for all my papers including originals but I photocopy everything first and keep that SEPERATELY in binders for each family. This I take on research trips. But - one of the best things to organize your work is to write it up. I started writing a family history very soon after I started my research. The idea was that it would never really be finished but that my children would have it all available if something should happen to me.(perhaps I was spending too much time in cemeteries!!) And my aging aunts and uncles wanted a chance to share my work. This has taken a year but it is being self-published as we speak. Meanwhile, as I gather bits of info I edit the draft. AND this rough draft I take with me to do research. On my last two trip I haven't consulted my files at all - only my paper! Most importantly - our research is only valuable if we share it and pass it on! Don't forget to writie it up and donate copies to local libraries, etc!!! Amy
Scan the letters, documents, etc. Use the technology and you can eliminate ALL that paper! Ellen
Mike,The O'CONNELL sept sprang from Co.Kerry. Also I suspect that MOYLAN and MOYLEN are the same name, and that Maria was a relative of the desceased. Most recently found in Co.Clare,Cork and Tipperary. Hope you can get started, good hunting, take care, Joe Coastal CarolinaUSA PoppaJoe@webv.net
Under Canon Law the marriage took place in the bride's parish and required a dispensation for anyplace else. The RC records for Buffalo have been microfilmed and are in the Family History Library Catalog so you may be able to find the marriage record. Good Luck! Ellen
