    1. [FIANNA-L] Wow!
    2. The Grays
    3. Hi, My name is Sherry. I just joined this list , and thereby clued into the Fianna page. What a great page. I spent lots of time there last night...and I haven't even looked at the tutorials yet. I've only been doing genealogy and the internet since last fall. A year ago I thought I "might' have a couple of Irish ancestors. Now I find I have at least 6 and possibly 8 families who came to Ontario, Canada, from Ireland, before 1833 ( the last two came certainly before the 1870s, but probably back in the 30s, too) and one more who was in England in the late 1800s. So I have nine names and at least 5 localities to search. Obviously, I need to learn lots. I have not yet attempted to access any Irish records. Glad to find your list and web site. Thanks, Sherry sbg@muskoka.com

    1. [FIANNA-L] County Clare Search Help?
    2. Sharon Foley
    3. We will be travelling to Ireland on July 6th. We know that the Foley's and Jordan's we are interestesed in were from County Clare. We also have some other info. that was promply provided by the Clare Heritage Centre. They found one possibility for each of the two individuals we are searching. My question is, what can we search ourselves while there? I believe that they only searched the Baptism records. I know they hold other records, but are these records available at other sites? We will be in Ireland for ten days and will land in Shannon, which I know is near Clare. Also, we will be in Dublin, and can search there. We are actually free to go to any sites you might recommend. HELP! Thanks, Sharon Foley

    1. [FIANNA-L] Birthdays :)
    2. chirho
    3. Yes, our thanks and appreciation to Cloudy for this list, to all the Rigs, and to all the folks who've been active in fians :) On June 23, there will be another birthday - the Fianna Hideaway :) Remember how we had about six pages of stuff... just the profiles and a few surnames and logs? Behind a password! And now we're over 200 pages and growing! Many folks have contributed, and all are urged to continue to contribute! Those taking courses contribute as part of their coursework, but ANYONE can send chirho a text file of good information to add to our guide, recipes to tempt the palatte, etc. :) Our surname listing has become so active that it is currently closed while chirho tries to figure out "cchelper" in order to automate it a lot more and provide searching and query capabilities :) (HINT, HINT - anyone who's familiar with cchelper, HELP! chirho is confused and still wrestling with how to do it!) So Happy Birthday to Fianna-L and Fianna, and Fianna Hideaway! And thank you to EVERYONE on the list and in the Fians... YOU make it all happen !! :) Peace. 1. [FIANNA-L] Happy Birthday!
    2. Wendy Wiseman
    3. Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to FIANNA-L, Happy Birthday to yooooooo! Couldn't help noticing that my old first few messages from the beginning of this list say June 16th 1997. So that means that our little ol' list has its first birthday right about now. (or was it even within the last few days?) Anyway, being one of the original footsoldiers, as it were, I just couldn't let it go by without saying something. Thanks to Laura for creating and maintaining FIANNA-L, to Janet Cowan for the original Fianna Resource page, to chirho for the Hideaway and all the study group pages, and to all of us that have led study groups for the Fianna. And even though I've only had time to be a silent listener for the past year, I've enjoyed reading all the stuff the rest of you have posted. I need to get my butt in gear and post some information/questions. Hopefully soon I can get it ready. That's enough for now, I'll let you get on to the more interesting stuff. Thanks for listening... Wendy Wiseman (SplitLevelHead)

    1. [FIANNA-L] Military family in NC
    2. I am close to Ft. Bragg military installation. If anyone has a family member who was active duty and a resident of the state of NC when they passed, they will probably be buried here unless otherwise requested. The cemetery is not that large, and I would be happy to walk around and look for any names. Desiree

    1. [FIANNA-L] The Lotto: Humor for the day!
    2. Joe & Laura Schmidt
    3. A guy named Joe finds himself in dire trouble. His business has gone bust and he's in serious financial trouble. He's so desperate that he decides to ask God for help. He begins to pray... "God, please help me, I've lost my business and if I don't get some money, I'm going to lose my house as well, please let me win the lotto". Lotto night comes and somebody else wins it. Joe again prays... "God, please let me win the lotto! I've lost my business, my house and I'm going to lose my car as well". Lotto night comes and Joe still has no luck. Once again, he prays... "My God, why have you forsaken me?? I've lost my business, my house, and my car. My wife and children are starving. I don't often ask you for help and I have always been a good servant to you. PLEASE just let me win the lotto this one time so I can get my life back in order ... " Suddenly there is a blinding flash of light as the heavens open and Joe is confronted by the voice of GOD himself: "JOE, MEET ME HALF WAY ON THIS ONE ... BUY A FREAKING TICKET!!!!!!
