My great grandfather John CORCORAN dob about 1829 in Kilkenny, Ireland. He came to Philadephia, PA. in the late 1840s or early 1850s. He married Anna STACK, dob about 1836 pob unknown, in Old St. Joseph's Church in Philadelphia, PA. on May 24, 1860. They had three children. One son and dauighter died at early ages and the last child Joseph Aloysius dob 2/2/1869 lived and later married Catherine Philomena Concannon in St. Mary's Church, Philadelphia on November 25, 1896. They had eight children- one of whom was may father George C. CORCORAN, SR. dob 6/20/1903. I am researching the identities of John CORCORAN'S and Anna STACK'S PARENTS AND SIBLINGS and exact places of birth. My great grandfather George CONCANNON dob about 1827 in Donegal, Ireland was a school teacher in Ireland. His father James CONCANNON was a baker and died before the family left Ireland. Hello, I'm new to Fianna just signed on last week. I have enjoyed reading the posts this past week. I wish I knew about this list sooner. There is very little information for my Irish ancestors. Ggrandparents: John McDEVITT b.Penn. d. c.1889 in St. Louis, Mo. Parents born Ireland Ellen McCARTHY b. Ireland death at Mount St.Rose Hospital, St. Louis,Mo. c.1896 She came with her parents and two other daughters. No names for them. Supposedly her two sisters remained in NY. Married John McDEVITT prior to 1886 in St. Louis, Mo. I have not found them on any US census so far. I plan to order Mo. state census from the local FHC next week. It has been nice getting to know you. Rose

Well it is that time again! The weekend is here! We had so much luck last weekend, let's do it again! A couple changes though! 1) Everytime you send a message, please change the subject line to reflect at least one of the surnames you are looking for! 2) Please put ALL surnames in UPPER CASE so we can see them right a way Besides that, have fun!
I knew a Steve Newell who was the football coach for el Segundo High School in CA.
Wendy & Jim - Glad to hear you two are still "lurking" around. Maybe you will be able to rejoin us when we move to Advanced (hahahaha - who says we're advanced) PIG. Let's hear from you more often. Corky corcoran@quik.com

COBORN...county Monahan pre-1800 COX ...Boyle, Roscommon, pre-1832 COWAN...Boyle, Rosscommon,(probably), pre-1832 McBRIDE...County Cork, pre 1879 McMANN/McMAHON... Hello, This is a great group of people. I just read the very thorough information about researching, that Sharon Carberry wrote about County Clare, etc. I can't imagine a more thorough answer...truly great. Perhaps I will someday be able to go to Ireland to do my research. However I am not certain yet where my OBRIEN's came from in Ireland. I am researching the following family. Martin and Mary O'BRIEN are my great great grandparents and this is the information I obtained from the cemetery where they are buried in Brooklyn. Martin O'BRIEN (1846-1911) m Mary (?) (1848-1910) (both born in Ireland) Known children: 1. Ann Francis O'BRIEN (b IL 1874-1955)m Charles Albert HARDING (possibly from Manchester England) Children of this marriage: Irene Veronica HARDING Cooke (1898-1992) Ruth Elizabeth HARDING Callan(1901-?) William HARDING (1903-1951) Charles J. HARDING (1907-1926) Harry Paul HARDING (1909-1991) Kenneth Martin HARDING (1912-1973) (my father) 2. William J O'BRIEN (1874-1909) no other information known Other OBRIEN children of Mary (?) and Martin O'BRIEN? Thanks for a wonderful mail list. Maureen A. Sherry, Welcome to the List and to FIANNA :) So glad the pages are useful to you, that's why everyone has been working so hard to make the information freely available on the net. :) Many pages have a line at the bottom that tells who contributed the item, and I'm sure most of them would appreciate a wee note when their data breaks down a brick wall. :) Peace. I was just in Clare, having landed at Shannon, and then I went to record offices in Dublin. I suggest you go to the County Library in Ennis, which has a special collection of books useful for Clare research. Since it opens late in the morning, I was not able to use it; it has a web site, which I get to off of the "Clare, Banner County" site. Also, after I got back, a person who located tax records in another county, suggested that I find where the Clare tax records are kept. You might inquire at the library about that. If you know the townland where your folks resided, I would go the cemetery. You can buy from the Tourist Board shop in the airport building, an ordnance survey map for the part of Clare you are interested in; it is very detailed and shows cemeteries. When you go to Dublin, you can spend 12 punts (pounds) at the General Registry Office in 8 Lombard St (Joyce House), Dublin 2 (the section of Dublin by Trinity College). The amount, fairly high, will be worth it if you get there when it opens. It closes for lunch and then closes for the day at 4 p.m. You can search the books of death, marriages, and births since 1864, by surname, and then order the certificates. I did the death books, which names a placename for each individual. If you know the townland, then the Deed Office on Henrietta Street (across the Liffey River, in another part of Dublin) would be a good place. They have books of land transactions, including major leases, by surname back to the 1700s and by locality. The staff is very helpful and will explain the system. The National Library, an architectural treasure, houses the parish books and the newspapers. The staff there is helpful. If you ask for Bernard, he might let you into the Genealogical Office next door, to see the microfiche on the Rosemary ffolliott biographical notices for Munster papers, from 1798 into the 1800s. It is alphabetized but seems to mention only what prominent people thought newsworthy back then. The National Archives holds Griffiths Valuations and Tithe Applotment book microfilm, as well as Will Perogative books and Marriage License indexes. I did all of the above in Dublin for four solid days (no lunch), and came away feeling that I had made an real inroad on my research. My ggm was Johanna Bowler (nee Sullivan) of Curraheen, Glenbeigh, County Kerry. She died in November 1933, and her age was given as 87, thus she was born around 1846. There is a babtismal record from the Catholic Church in Glenbeigh for a Johanna Sullivan of Curraheen, Glenbeigh that gives her parents as James Sullivan and Johanna Fitzgerald. I don't know for sure is this is my Johanna or not. Does anyone have any connections to these Sullivans from Glenbeigh, County Kerry, Ireland? It seems likely that Johanna would have had siblings. Mary Ann
My ggf was Thade Mangan of Droum West, Glenbeigh, County Kerry. His age was given as 65 in the 1901 census of Ireland, thus he would have been born around 1836. Michael and William MANGAN were listed in J. King's work. Does anyone have a connection to these Mangans from the Glenbeigh area? Mary Ann
Happy Birthday Fianna L and many more! >From another silent 'oldbie' Mugs
I'm looking for my CARROLL, MCELROY, LYNCH, BURNS, GAVAGAN, O'CONNOR, SULLIVAN, TAGUE (*MONTAGUE? - a mystery here) roots back in Ireland. I know pathetically little. In the USA, most of them settled in either the Boston, MA or Providence, RI areas in the 1800's. Any help would be appreciated and amazing. Fran Weeks
