    3. Hi Mary Ann: The Griffith's valuation of Ireland Index is an index of names of people who owned or lived on the land in the years 1848-1864. It will list the name, County, Parish & location/Town. Nothing else. If you want to know family, you must go to a genealogy library and look up the listing in the books. I have a griffiths index and I purchased it through the Family Tree Maker site online. It costs about $50.00 Plus tax and shipping and handling.I believe their url is familytreemaker.com Good Hunting. Theresa Maheinsz@aol.com wrote: > > I need a refresher course. 3. The Tithe Applotment books were compiled between 1823 and 1837 in order to determine the amount which occupiers of agricultural holdings should pay in tithes to the Church of Ireland (the main Protestant church, and the church established by the state until 1871). There is a manuscript book for almost every parish, giving the names of occupiers, the amount of land held, and the sums to be paid in tithes. The books for Northern Ireland are in the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (P.R.O.N.I.), Belfast, but there are copies in the National Archives of Ireland and microfilm copies at the Family History Library. The Primary Valuation (also known as Griffith's Valuation) was carried out between 1847 and 1864. There is a printed valuation book for each poor law union, showing the names of occupiers of land and buildings, the names of persons from whom these were leased, and the amount and value of the property held. The Griffith’s Valuation identifies the townland address of the family after the Famine. Most of these resources are on microfilm and available at the Family History Library. THIS RECORD FOUND UNDER 1. Ireland - Land and property 2. Ireland - Public records Ellen

    3. Does anybody have the Griffith's CD? If so, could you run a search for the surname HART in Munster Province: Clare, Limerick, Waterford, Cork, Kerry, and Tipperary. I don't think this will yield a massive, list since most HARTS are from SLIGO, but one never knows. So, if it turns out that it is too large of a project or too broad of a search, thanks anyway. 2. Lyn Hotchin
    3. I know an ancestor of mine was Alexander Gibson. He was born on the 12th August 1712. He went to America for a few years, returning to Ireland sell some land. However, the American Civil War broke out, and he stayed in Ireland, where he settled at Croneary, near Bawnboy Co. Cavan, where he died in 1801. What documents should I look up for further information? Does it seem likely that he resided in the Northern Counties, because his father was injured in the Siege of Londonderry. I am really lost. Many thanks for any help given. I really appreciate it. All best wishes from Australia. Lyn Hotchin hotchin@pronet.net.au

This information came from the LDS Family Search Ancestrial File and I cannot find out how accurate the information but I descend form their daughter Catherine who married Alexander JUNKINS. Do you have any information on this family I have no name for his parents but he is supposed to be grandson of Bartholomew STACKPOLE of Limerick, Co. Clare, Ireland. Rob Forrest . 2. Joe & Laura Schmidt
    3. Hi there! If you are a WebTV user and wish to share a URL with us, but can't send to RootsWeb the normal attachment due to the new filter, there is a solution! Had a great guy on one of the lists I maintain, take the time to find it for me. "Found it!!! Some users of webtv only have a hand held remote. They will have to click on "options" and when they come up-- click on "info" and the URL address will appear. The ones that have keyboards can do the same or there is an info key on the top row of the keyboard 4th key from the far right. Click on this and the address will come up. This is done while viewing the homepage of the URL. Write this address down and type it into the body of the post to the list. Dan sorry still no cut and paste."
