Still trying to find any info on the wife , Mary, of Patrick Keneally. He died in Crockett, CA 6/21/1909 (he was 55 years old). He was survived by his wife, Mary, and a sister in San Francisco named Nora Keneally.(I guess not married yet?). Records say my grandfather was picked up at a Matrinez orphanage by his uncle, Patrick Kenneally.Patrick was born in County Kerry, IRE and I don't know where he married or when he married, but I suspect he married my grandfather's father's sister, a Mary Gallahgher? Any ideas? Thanks, John (Napa, CA) ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Surf the Web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER! At the suggestion of a friend, I have opened a new webpage under the Ireland Books Discussion webpage on my website. It will work much like the Parish History Books webpage does. Books will be submitted by anyone who knows of a book related to Ireland. At the top of the webpage, I have listed some categories which will probably be refined as more books are submitted. I have already included a few books from my library. So, check out the webpage and if you know of a book that you think others will enjoy, please use the form at the bottom of the page. You can access the page by going to the URL below my name. Under Ireland, click on Ireland Books. On the Ireland Book Discussion page, go to the bottom under Previous Posts and click on 'Ireland Book List' (has NEW on both sides). -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
Today I updated the Parish History Books webpage on my website with another 40 or so books and with more lookup volunteers. Anyone doing Irish genealogical research find these books invaluable to their family history. I didn't know they even existed until my first trip to Ireland in 1999 and accidentally happened on them in Galway Town at Kenny's Bookstore. When I came back from another Ireland trip in 2001 I had collected so many more books that I needed to buy another suitcase at Roche's. Later, I decided to start this website to help those who didn't know about the books or knew about them and could not find any to buy, since many are out of print. When I started the website, I didn't include lookups but did include a form for other researchers to submit books that I didn't know about. Since then, I started getting emails from wonderful people offering to do lookups, so I added Lookup Volunteers. In the beginning, not all counties had many books, but I have since joined all 32 counties of Ireland mailing lists' to reach out to the counties where I am not active so I could include their books. You can access the Parish Books website, by going to the URL under my name. On my homepage, under Ireland, click on Ireland Books. This will take you to the Irish Book Discussion Mailing List webpage. Near the bottom, under Previous Posts, the Parish History Books have four links, listed by county in alpha order. At the bottom of each Parish History Book webpage is a form where you can submit books that are not already listed. I update the site monthly, usually the the first week. If you see a book listed without a lookup volunteer, and you have the book and want to volunteer, email me off list and I will include you with my next update. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
Hi List Members! Since it is at that time of year when the lists start to get busy, I figured I would give you all some hints at writing more productive emails and a little bit of netiquette. Hopefully some of you will pick up on a few of these! 1) Please when writing to the list, look at the subject line in your email! Is it pertinent to your query? Or have you just hit the reply button to someone else's mail and the subject has nothing to do with your letter? Please make that subject line special to your query! 2) DO NOT hit reply to on the entire digest! DO NOT have a subject line that says Re: LISTNAME-D Digest V00 #266! That subject has nothing to do with your query or anyone else's original message! 3) When writing a query, DO NOT write in all UPPERCASE LETTERS! This is only done when you are SHOUTING at someone! 4) When writing an effective query, please put SURNAMES in UPPERCASE as this makes it easier for others to spot when reading their mail, thusly making your query more effective! 5) Try to list any dates and locations that you know! Maybe someone else will be searching that SURNAME in that time period and locality, (not necessarily your ancestor but maybe a brother, sister or cousin) 6) Always include your email address in the body of the letter too! The messages are archived. It will be easier for someone to do a search in the mail lists and see your email address in the body so if they are not list members, they can still answer you easily! 7) Be polite! No one is perfect and not everyone will take the time to use common netiquette, but that doesn't mean you have a right to tell them what to do. If you have a problem with a list member, write LISTNAME-admin@Rootsweb.com and let the list maintainer decide what to do. You have no right telling fellow list members what to do or not to do! 8) When sending a web site address, always type it in the form of "http://." because some e-mail programs will permit the user to click on a web address to go right there. Without the "http://" prefix these programs will not recognize it as such. 9) Do not blatantly promote your business by posting an advertisement to a discussion group, unless it is clearly an accepted use and you have cleared it with the list maintainer first. Otherwise, you are "spamming." 10}Do not forward personal e-mail to a discussion group without getting the author's permission first. Also do not forward from one mail list to another without the original author of the message's permission! 11) Read over your e-mail before you send it. Although e-mail is an informal method of communication, be sure you make your points clear and concise. Use a spell checker if available! 12) Consider that a large audience will see your posts. Take care in what you write. Remember too, that mailing lists are archived, and that your words will be stored for a very long time in a place to which many people have access. 13) If you are sending a reply to a message or a posting be sure you summarize the original at the top of the message, or include just enough text of the original to give a context. This will make sure readers understand when they start to read your response. Giving context helps everyone. But do not include the entire original! 14) Be careful when you reply to messages or postings. Frequently replies are sent back to the address which originated the post - which in many cases is the address of the mail list! You may accidentally send a personal response to a great many people, embarrassing all involved. 15) When sending a message to more than one mailing list, especially if the lists are closely related, apologize for cross-posting! 16) When unsubscribing from a list on RootsWeb write a new email in plain text to LISTNAME-L-Request@RootsWeb.com (or -D if you are a digest mode member) with only the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the body of the message and please spell unsubscribe correctly. You have to unsub from the address you are subscribed under, otherwise you will never get off the list! If you can't use the address you are subscribed under, write LISTNAME-admin@RootsWeb.com and explain the problem. 17) Do not post virus warnings to the mail lists! RootsWeb has filtering set up where you will NEVER get a virus from a RootsWeb mailing list! 18) Always post in "plain text" If you don't know how to switch your program to plain text, see http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help/html-off.html and it will walk you through it! 19) Write LISTNAME-admin@RootsWeb.com before deciding to promote a new mailing list. Ask permission first! 20) Most of all have fun!
I have updated the Parish History Books webpages with over 50 more books, many with lookup volunteers. If you submitted a book please check your entry for accuracy. If you find mistakes, please email me off list. You will notice that I have redesigned the site and broken the original webpage into four webpages because of the size. They are still arranged in alphabetic order of counties. You can access the webpages at the url below my name. At my homepage, you will find a navigation bar at the top, under Ireland, click on Ireland Books and this will take you to a webpage for the Ireland Books Discussion Mailing List. At the bottom of that page, you will find links for the Parish History Books. (If your browser, does not use the navigation bars, there is a work around, just click on "click here") The Parish History Books are something I didn't know existed until my first trip to Ireland in 1999. I was pleasantly surprised to find them because not only did they include the history of the area, some listed the censuses, the Griffith's Valuation and/or the Tithes for the parish. When I started this site a couple of years ago, people started volunteering to do lookups in the books since many are out of print. Now, people are starting to submit books relating to the country in general and not to one particular parish or area. If you have a book that is not listed, some counties are pretty sparse in listings, use the convenient form at the bottom of the webpage. It is your choice, of course, on whether you care to volunteer to do lookups in the book. Also, if you have a book that is listed without a lookup volunteer and you would like to volunteer, please email me off list and I'll be sure to add you on my next revision. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002

Those of you researching County Limerick ancestors may lose a valuable research source. I have been informed that the Limerick Archives, the heritage unit for Co. Limerick, may be closing due to lack of funding. Seems they get subsidies from both the city of Limerick and the county to keep their business going because the fees they charge do not cover their expenses and now both the city and the county are having trouble balancing their budgets and looking to cut the subsidies. I can speak personally about the help I have received from the Archives. I stopped in there when in Limerick City in 2001 and within a couple of hours they had a report for me. I asked for a marriage and while they didn't find the marriage, they found a number of the children and gave me all the names, dates and places of their baptisms and only changed me for the marriage lookup which was 10 punts at the time. Was wondering if anyone has ever been to Annaghdown,Galway and Nympfields, Cong, Ct Mayo Would like to find some one that has and maybe took some pictures, my husband's grandparents were from there. He is never going to be able to go, thought it would be nice for him to see some pictures of the villages. Thanks to all Lorraine
I have updated the Parish History Books website. You can find the link on the Irish Books Discussion Mailing List website at: http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/books/ All counties are covered and many books have Lookup Volunteers. If you know of any books that are not on the list, there is a form on the website where you can enter the information. If you see a book that you have and would like to volunteer to do lookups on it, you can also use the form. In case you don't know about the parish history books, they are books printed in the area and they mostly include the history of the parish, but some actually have the Tithes Applotment and Griffith Valuation records for the area, and some have census records. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com Professional Genealogy Research All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
The Nenagh Guardian, news index, 1839, no 1, has been uploaded http://www.hotkey.net.au/~jwilliams4/nnew391.htm The references are unfortunately brief(due to space constraints), but hopefully give enough clues to possibly identify a family member. If the paper mentioned family connections in relation to a named person, then I will have included that in the index (eg..if Robert Sheedy went to court, and it was mentioned during his trial that he was the son of John Sheedy, and the cousin of Michael Green, then I will index that as: Robert Sheedy son of John Robert Sheedy cousin of John Green ) I have also always included if a place was mentioned (eg.. if Robert Sheedy was arrested at Youghal, I will note that in the index.....or if he was arrested at Youghal but lived at Nenagh, I will also have noted the same.) If a spouse was mentioned, or children, that will also be noted (eg Robert Sheedy who died at Youghal left a widow and three children, so my index will read Robert Sheedy, married, 3 children.) best wishes Jenny Fawcett

Hi, While doing genealogy and family trees it is a good idea to record cause of death if possible. Also, health concerns. I have always felt that cancer doesn't run in our family, but now there are two cases, diagnosed within a week of each other, plus a cousin who died fifteen years ago. I am presently trying to get as many death certificates as necessary. I am most concerned with my cousins, many of whom I have lost track of. We moved a lot and so did they. Rita
