    1. NY-Irish surnames
    2. Pat Connors
    3. I have updated the NY-Irish surname registries on my website. They are for ancestors who lived at one part of their life in New York State, including New York City. Many emigrants passed through NY before going North, South and/or West. They may have filed their first naturalization papers in NY. They may have left friends and relatives there before moving on or they may have stayed there. If you made a submission during April, please check it for accuracy. If you would like to add your surname, or make changes to one already posted, use the forms at the bottom of the registries webpages. You can access the registries, by going to the URL below my name. At the top of my homepage, under Mailing Lists, click on NY-Irish. This will take you to the NY-Irish Mailing List website. Near the bottom, under 'Contributions from Subbers', you will find links to the registries. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton

    1. Learning the craft of genealogy online
    2. Kylie Veale
    3. Fellow genealogists, Have you ever used the Internet to learn about genealogy methods and resources? Taken a genealogy course online? Read some 'how to' articles? Then I would like to hear from you. I am an Australian Ph.D. student who is currently writing a book chapter for an academic Virtual Learning Environment publication - my chapter is about using the Internet for genealogical education. I would therefore love to hear from you, fellow genealogists, about any Internet-based content you've used for genealogy education. This includes online courses (free or fee), how-to's, articles/columns, newsgroups, BBS, chat, mailing lists, forums, or even personal web pages that publish learning material - anything online that helps you in learning the craft of genealogy. Your comments on the following is of utmost interest: What are your favourite learning outlets on the Internet? How often do you use them? Can or did you find what you needed online? What are your learning successes? What could be better? What do you look for in genealogical learning on the Internet? If you would like to participate, your comments are extremely welcome. Please send your comments to me directly at research@veale.com.au before Saturday 1st May 2004. I thank you in advance for your participation in this academic research. Kylie Veale P.S. Names and email addresses will be protected and are therefore not included in the publication. Copies of the paper will be made available to interested participants on request, after the book has been published. ----------------------------------------------- Kylie J. 3. >And one question for you, the G5 you have next to the surname, does that mean 5 entries of that surname in the Griffiths? This is from the Household index and I thought the following above the table was clear, but maybe only to me :-) G5 means the name was mentioned in the Griffiths Valuation 5 different times. > G=each occurrence in the Griffith's Valuation, 1850 > T=only an occurrence in Tithe Applotment Book (not counted), 1826 -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton

If you have made previous submissions and want to change some of the info and/or if your email address has changed, please submit a form (found on registry webpage) and put 'change' in the field where you need the change. I update the registries at the beginning of each month. If you haven't taken advantage of putting your surname in the registry, I suggest you do so because you just never know who will see it and be able to connect with your family tree. On Monday I heard from a cousin, I didn't even know existed, because she saw a message I had posted on the Flynn Rootsweb Message Board in the year 2000. I can't begin to tell how exciting this is, not only to find a live cousin, but we are exchanging information about our Flynn family tree and some of my brick walls are starting to crumble. Plus, she gave me a direct line to a Campbell cousin and now more information is flowing between us, also. You can access the Co Clare surname registries by going to the URL below my name. At the top of my homepage, you will find some drop down menus. Under Ireland, click on County Clare. It should also be noted, I have many surname registries on my website for Ireland, New York State and England, so while you are there, check out your other interests. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton
