    1. RE: [FIANNA-L] Researching in Ireland, CLENDINNEN/CARLEY/HAREN/MORRISSEY/DOODY/RYAN/FALLON
    2. Mary Wilkinson
    3. I am likely related to RYANS from County Clare since after my Maurice DINAN married Catherine HARTNADY in Killaloe in 1838, they shared a farm with two HARTNADY men (Probably Catherine's father & brother) and a JAMES OR JOHN RYAN at Ballycuggarran (spelling?) a mile or so north of Killaloe an the Snannon River. Maurice & Catherine and children emigrated to Ontario Canada in 1847. That farm is now a Recreation Area according to the Clare Heritage Library. Does this sound familiar? I am also related to GLENDINNINGS but they came directly from Scotland to Canada. We may have discussed this before. If so, I apologize. 1. Delia Murphy, Hollymount, Co. Mayo, 1902-1971
    2. Eilis O'Hara
    3. Delia Murphy was a ballad singer from Hollymount, Co. Mayo. She was born on February 16, 1902 in Ardroe, Claremorris. The family soon moved to Mount Jennings in Hollymount. Her father was Jack Murphy from near Hollymount, Co Mayo and he made his money in America during the Klondike Gold Rush. While there he married Anna Fanning from Roscrea, Co Tipperary and they returned to live in Ireland in 1901. Delia married Tom Kiernan who became an Irish diplomat. They were married in 1924 and had four children. The family moved to London and Delia returned in Ireland in 1935. In 1939 she recorded "The Blackbird", "The Spinning Wheel" and "Three Lovely Lassies". From 1941 she went to various diplomatic posts with her husband: and between 1951 and 1955 she lived in Ireland where she continued singing and became more recognized. In 1952 she was performing her songs in England, particularly "The Spinning Wheel" and "The Moonshiner". The family then moved to Canada where she bought a house in the country near Ottawa. In 1969 she returned to Dublin. She died on February 11, 1971. Further detail on Delia Murphy can be found in: "I'll Live Till I Die: The Story of Delia Murphy", by Aidan O'Hara. 1. Marquis Cornwallis Ships Log
    2. Eilis O'Hara
    3. The 654 ton Marquis Cornwallis set sail from Cork to New South Wales in 1795 and carried 244 Irish men and women prisoners. There was a revolt on the ship prompted by intolerable conditions suffered by the passengers who were chained below decks and frequently fell victim to disease. Captain Michael Hogan who was born in Co. Clare in 1766 was the ship's captain and quelled the mutiny. Hogan made his fortune as a slave trader and merchant and the ship's log reveals the aftermath of the mutiny. Hogan settled in New York in 1804 and bought a mansion on the Hudson River. He went on to found the town of Hogansburg in northern New York State and later became the first US Consul to Chile. The log is to be auctioned in London and is expected to realise as much as £150k. The Mulchinocks lived in West Villa. Mary's mother was an O'Sullivan from Green Lane. Her father was a brogue maker. Mary was the nurse for William's sister, Maria's children.
