Hi, I have just joined this list and would welcome any information on MADDEN. Found on census in 1881 living in Farnham, Surrey, UK. Father JOHN MADDEN son JEREMIAH.
Anyone looking for a Michael Joseph Conroy in Brooklyn, NY. He probably lived in the water front area of Brooklyn, called Brooklyn Hgts or Red Hook. He was about 29 in 1897 when he sponsored Margaret Conroy at St Charles Borromeo Church. She is the daughter of Thomas Conroy sometimes known as Dennis. Both men probably worked the docks believe that they were brothers. Thomas and family lived at 51 Columbia Pl. at that time. Anyone with information please email me at [email protected] Lorraine Conroy

Can any one tell me where Clonaslee is located, where is Queens, Ireland. Thanks Lorraine Conroy
I now have a new name to add to my Conroy family which I believe was our Thomas's brother. One of Thomas Conroy & Mary Flaherty children's godparents was Michael Joseph Conroy. They lived in Brooklyn, NY. Michael was the godfather in 1897. Does anyone know of this Michael Joseph Conroy? I have found on the British Vital Records Index for the years of 1868 and 1871 are listed 2 children with the same parents in Clonaslee, Queens, Ireland. Michael born 1 Feb 1868 and Thomas born 14 Jul 1871 to Thomas Conroy and Eliza Egan. How can I prove that this is the Thomas & Michael that we are searching for? My father was a Michael and my uncle was a Joseph. Any suggestions please. Ed Conroy

I have a Charles BASS in Cobb and Cherokee Counties,., Ga. USA, who was from Ireland per several census records. I have not found another Bass anywhere close by that could be his parents. I have looked through all the books in my library with ship and passenger lists, and checked out all I found on the Web. but haven't found a Charles Bass anywhere near the right age. He was 19 and married to a Cobb Countian in the 1860 Census, putting him born about 1840-41. Can anyone suggest where I should look next? Many thanks, Joan
Hi Jan- I am interested in what you have on Hession. I have Hession in Athenry, Co. Galway and i've been in contact with people of that name from other locations in Galway as well. I'd appreciate any info you could give me. Thanks! Amy
The local FHC has a listing of the Indexes to Irish Births. According to the list I have the index for 1864 is film # 0101041. I ordered it along with the index for 1865, but it hasn't arrived yet. I hope to get it this week. I'd be happy to look in the 1864 index for you when it comes. Before that, my grandmother, Catherine McEnroe, daughter of John McEnroe and Mary King, was born on February 14, 1864, the births could be found only in church records. Did you look at the 1864 Index which began 1 Jan 1864? You were misinformed about the first year being 1865. Birth certificates include the date and place of birth; the name; the sex; the name, surname and residence of the father; the name, surname, maiden surname of the mother; the rank, profession or occupation of the father; and the name and qualifications of the informant, usually a family member. A given name was not obligatory, so some entries are Kelly, Male or Clarke, Female. The FHLC holds microfilm copies of the index and certificates for 1864-1955. Certificates for births, marriages and deaths for all of Ireland until 1922 are housed in Dublin. Belfast has the records for Northern Ireland from 1922 to present. General Register Office, Joyce House, 8-11 Lombard St. East, Dublin 2 Open 9:30-12:30 and 2:15 - 4:30 Fees are payable in Irish punts and cash (Irish, Sterling, US dollars) for any amount. A photocopy of an entry will contain the same details as a certificate but is not suitable for administrative matters. However, it is ideal for genealogical purposes. Photocopy (including search fee) is Irpunts 3.00 and Certificate (including search fee) is Irpunts 5.50. If more than one certificate relating to the death of the same person is required an additional fee of 4.00 Irpunts should be sent for each extra certificate. What is required for search: Name in full, date of event, place of event. Ellen
CAIN / DUGAN / HESSION / KILCOYNE / McKEON I have a list of these last names from the Index to Irish Births for 1865. The index lists the first name, Locale, Volume and Page of the FHC film. If anyone would like a "look-up" , please contact me through the list. Jan Guiliano

Dear List Members: Some time ago, I found an online site that had listings of the students' name from Irish elementary and secondary [in American terms grades 1-12] schools [I believe County Cork] during the later half of the 1800s. It listed the school, location, date, and student's first and last name. I thought that I had bookmarked the site, but have searched and cannot find it. Does anyone know of URL for this site? I do not remember any other particulars. Thank you in advance for your help. Joan Rogers
