Hi everyone, I know there are several people out there that have requested helpful hints on visiting Ireland. Well here is another one. Originally we were going in August and I felt I had plenty of time to gather hints, well now our trip has been upped to the first week of May. We are staying 2 and a half weeks and want to get in as much sightseeing as possible. Big citys are not what we are after. The small places and ruins are what we like, so if anyone has any MUST SEES, please let me know. You can mail me privately or to the list. Thank you so much for all the help. Leslie
Hello, I am lucky enough to be going to Ireland in early June for my first trip to where my g-grandparent were born. I've found the travelling/research tips given on this list over the past few months helpful. Thanks to all. Now I'm racing against time to gather my information and I am asking if SKS could check out the 1855 Griffith's valuation for Matthew SLATTERY Mitchelstown Co Cork Thanks Jan Maclean Jan Maclean [email protected]

I leave June 5 - first visit also! I also hope to see where my great grandfather's family came from - the only Irish ancestor who I have a definite place in Ireland for and that is Killashandra, County Cavan. Joan

A local journalist, (now departed) entered several queries for me in Journal back in 1979 and 1982. A further search of towns of interest will give names of Newspapers and addresses. Cyndi's List will give you leads to Irish Newspapers. I just tried a good search site, http://www.google.com/ and entered Newspapers+Mayo+Ireland Hope this helps. Dear Jerry, Having done a number of transactions with SMFRC, I will be shocked if you are not pleased with the results. An old boss once imparted this wisdom: You can have two of these three, but never all three- Quick, Easy, Cheap. Which do you want? I'm sure your patience will be worth it. Hi In the early part of January there was some discussion on whether it was worth $70 dollars to send to the South Mayo Heritage Center, for family info. I took the chance and mailed my money to the center. Everyone ask to be let in on what I thought of the service when I got it back. I was geting edgy about this going into the last week that they had said it could possibly take. I sent a message to the Center Monday night and this is the answer. Mr. McDermott Thank you for your message. We received your inquiry on January 25th. I expect that a reply will be airmailed later this week and should reach you about April 9th. Dear Twyla, Although not from my immediate line, I have run across Cunningham's along the Galway-Mayo border area. These folks later show up in Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis. Any progress on where your Cunnigham's come from. Another name I find with them is Farraher. Hi Jan, I would love to have the attachment. My Dicksons' seem to be turning into Dixons and I feel back at square one!! Thanks so much Mildred Toronto
Ryan's Irish Records, 1st ed., p xxiii "In the 1660s a tax was levied on Ireland based on the number of hearths in each house. Hearth Money Rolls have not survived for all counties, but they do give householders' names in each parish. They are held in various archives and many have been published in periodicals." Ellen
There are no Dickson's on the list, because I didn't find any in the records. I learned to not trust spellings a long time ago <g>. Jan Guiliano
