    3. Hello, I am searching for details of BRADY from County CAVAN: PHILLIP BRADY born 1839 Co. Cavan (Labourer) Parents were TERENCE BRADY (a farmer) and ANNE PHILLIP'S. Phillip came to Australia probably early 1860's, he may have been married in Ireland but his first wife died in 1867(most probably in Australia) Can anyone add to this information or can anyone put me in the right direction? I am looking for birth records of TERENCE, ANNE, PHILLIP and other siblings. Ship records from Ireland to Australia(if anyone holds them from the early 1860's) Also Marriage and death details for TERENCE and ANNE BRADY. Can anyone help? Regards Tara

    3. The single most important item of information for Irish family history research is a precise place of origin, and the most important tool in identifying Irish placenames is the 1851 Townlands Index. They've altered their site recently, this is the new URL for any Townland questions : http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/placename/index.cfm" Irish Ancestors;Placenames http://www.caughey.demon.co.uk and then click on: Irish Ancestors. This should make it possible for you to search 65,000 Irish placenames. -- Also this incomplete but very handy townland data base here: http://www.thecore.com/cgi-bin/ire-srch IreAtlas TOWNLAND DATA BASE http://www.expediamaps.com/PlaceFinder.asp Can get to parish level but not townlands. A townland is NOT a town. It is the smallest administrative unit in Ireland based on the ancient pastures. Ellen

I get cards like: > Devine, Elizabeth 17 f 19 64 8918 > Devine, Elizabeth 16 f 27 33 8880 > Christina, The above sequence is interpreted: Surname, first name, age, sex, line, page, volume 1) Volume 8918 of the passenger lists is the 2nd of 2 volumes found on roll #3961; beginning date of arrivals is Nov. 7, 1926. 2) Volume 8880 of the passenger lists is the second of two films found on roll 3941; beginning arrival date is Oct. 4, 1926. Go to the 2nd volume on each film, then look for your page number, which can be tricky, as there are often several numbers on each page. Then go down to the correct line. I understand that staff at the NARA in Pittsfield recommend that if it is too difficult to deal with the page number, then go through the volume looking only at the line in question on each page. If you are getting film through an LDS Family History Center, the film numbers will not correspond to what I have given you, which is the NARA film number. However, just look for the volume # in the LDS catalog (microfiche or computer), and you will see the LDS film number. Hope this helps. Margaret J. -- E-mail: [email protected] OR [email protected]
