    3. I, too, am researching McCarty. My gg grandmother was Elizabeth McCarty. She was born in PA in 1859 to Mary and Charles McCarty. They were both born in Ireland, but I have not been able to track down the county as of yet. They arrived in the US prior to 1859. They had three children: Elizabeth and Mary are two for whom I have names. Elizabeth's husband--Stephen Boland--died at the age of 35, and within 10 years, she remarried. Elizabeth and Stephen had 8 children. If there seems to be a connection, let me know. 3. Mayge Margaret Purcell lived until after 1864 so you could find her death record with the townland of residence. From that you could begin to search for baptismal records, etc. Registration of births, marriages and deaths, regardless of religion, began January 1, 1864. Certificates for births, marriages and deaths for all of Ireland until 1922 are housed in Dublin. Belfast has the records for Northern Ireland from 1922 to present. General Register Office, Joyce House, 8-11 Lombard St. East, Dublin 2 Open 9:30-12:30 and 2:15 - 4:30 Fees are payable in Irish punts and cash (Irish, Sterling, US dollars) for any amount. A photocopy of an entry will contain the same details as a certificate but is not suitable for administrative matters. However, it is ideal for genealogical purposes. Photocopy (including search fee) is Irpunts 3.00 and Certificate (including search fee) is Irpunts 5.50. If more than one certificate relating to the death of the same person is required an additional fee of 4.00 Irpunts should be sent for each extra certificate. What is required for search: Name in full, date of event, place of event, age of deceased, occupation of deceased, whether single, married, widow. http://quote.yahoo.com/m3?u or http://www3.travelocity.com/converter/ to get the currency exchange rate for the day. 3. Searching for my grandfather as to what happen to him in 1905: Did he die or disappear? Thomas Conroy b. Ireland cc 1870 came to NY with wife Mary Flaherty Conroy and arr 14 May 1890. He worked the docks and they lived for the most part around that area in Brooklyn. Believe Thomas had a brother Michael Joseph Conroy, he is my aunt Margaret's god father in 1897 at St Charles Borroemo church at 21 Sidney Pl.Bklyn. One of their daughter's named Nora married cc 1912 to a Frances Phipps a longshoreman, they had 2 daughters Teresa & Honora. Both these girls married brothers name of Frances & Daniel William . To our knowledge only Teresa & Frances had any children a daughter named Kathleen. Last heard of in 1967 when Teresa's father died , they lived in Middle Village at that time. Are any of the Williams still alive, we have called most of the ones listed in the Queens & Bklyn phone book, nothing. Would anyone have any clue as to what became of any member of this family? I have had 3 searchs done in Ireland for a marriage of Thomas & Mary and 1 in England and nothing has been found. We know Mary parents but not the town or village she came from so Dublin can't find her birth certificate. Have done much work in the FHC. We are really up against that brick wall. Anyone with info please e mail us. [email protected] Thanks to all Ed Conroy

    2. HART - Patrick from Killashandra parish, CO. Cavan, Ireland; to America 1847 - eventually settled in Wisconsin. Also accompanied by his brothers Peter, Barney, Michael and John and 2 sisters (names unknown) The brothers all settled in farms in Askeaton, Wisconsin - near Green Bay, Wi while the sisters married and remained in the east (New Jersey?) If anyone has access to NJ 1850 census I would really like to find out more about these 2 sisters. I know they worked as housekeepers in I think Jersey City after arriving in America. I think one had the married name of McKenna. REHILL (REEHILL) - Mary and her brother John and his family to America 1850s?? - eventually settled in Wisconsin. Mary became the wife of Patrick HART. BROWN - John and Susanna - Ireland to Canada about 1830- after a few years to Monroe County, NY. Grandson married daughter of Mary and Patrick HART. 3. I am still gathering MULDERIG and CLARKE data which I will share with others. They came from Bohola and Kiltimagh parishes in Mayo (1881 and 1882)and settled in St. Louis. I have lots of Mulderig information and not much on the Clarke's. Rare names are so much easier to research than the frequently occurring Clark, Kelly, O'Brien. I am also working on the CRINNIONs of Co Louth who emigrated by way of Liverpool to New York about 1830s and who settled in St Louis before 1860. I have collected information on many of the descendants of Crinnions from people of the 5th and 6th generations. I'm always looking for more relatives. Ellen aka Celtic Knot

    3. I am researching the following names: Boland, Michael (1804), Vaugh(an), Margaret (1804), and W. Brodie. Michael and Margaret lived in Harrisburg, PA after immigrating to the US in 4/1862 from County Clare, Ireland. They arrived here with three of their eleven children: Stephen & John (12/24/1855) Anna (1853). Their other children were Margaret, Mary, Bridget, Thomas, Joseph, and Nancy. They all made Harrisburg their home. Margaret lived to be 102 and outlived all of her children with the exception of John. I have not been able to narrow down my search to a parish or a town for this family. Everything--tombstones, death certificates and naturalization papers-- merely state County Clare. The Bolands were Catholic, and I hope someone can help narrow my search in finding records in County Clare so that I can continue moving back in time and learning more about the family. As far as the surname Brodie, I just found out after reading Margaret Boland's obituary--front page story-- that she had a living sister at the time of her death: Mrs. W. Brodie. Mrs. Brodie originally lived in Harrisburg, but she moved to Ida Grove, Iowa at some point. I have not had a chance to check the census for Mrs. Brodie, so at this point in time, I do not know anything else about her. If there is help out there, I will glad accept. 1. Re: [FIANNA-L] MARTIN, MONAHAN...
    2. Am searching for several families who came to the US from Ireland, two of which have me pretty stumped: MARTIN, Daniel, came in approx. 1852 with wife, Mary SULLIVAN, and son, Daniel, 2 years old. Settled in Manhattan. Daniel may have died by late 1870's or 1881. Looks like they may have lived on 8th Avenue until the late 1870's, then Mary is found alone on West 51st, near Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on West 51st. Son Daniel was married in 1882 at Sacred Heart to Mary Jane Monahan. Brothers to Daniel may have included Patrick, John, William, Joseph, possibly sister Mary who likely married a Kennedy. Family 'lore' says they may have come from Cork or Dublin, and that there is a Kearney related to this family as well. MONAHAN, Mary Jane, born in Ireland in 1864, came to Ireland at some point not too long after with her parents, Patrick Monahan and Bridget Dolan. Again, Patrick may have died by 1870, as Bridget, then 42 and Mary, then 7, are found taking in boarders in the 1870 Census in King's County. A witness at the baptism of one of Mary's sons is Martin Monahan, of which there aren't too many in NY, I just can't make the connection. Again, family lore notes that the name originally was Monaghan, and they may have come from Co. Wicklow, Galway or Meath, and that there is a McNamara related to this family. Unfortunately, that's all I know as yet, although I'm digging hard. Anyone who sees even the slightest connection, please contact me (or if you have suggestions on how to proceed further, I am currently using the FHC and going through possible naturalizations on Patrick and Daniel, and fine-tooth-combing census records...) Thanks to a great list..... Diane Martin Sutherland
