Becky: The PURCELL's I'm researching are on my husband's side of the family. AGNES PURCELL married EMANUEL HUNTSCHA. Agnes and Emanuel are my husband's great grandparents. I think Agnes has a sister, Mary. I haven't gotten much beyond that. I have found from early records that their name was originally spelled PARUSSEL. We are in the Chicago area. Where do you live? Can someone who has done more research in Co.Londonderry than I answer these questions regarding the Clothworkers Company, one of the 12 principal London companies that settled in the county in the early 1600's? l. Did the clothworkers build any towns or villages and if so, what were their names, and names today,if different? 2.The category "fletchers" appears as a minor or inferior company under the clothworkers. Does "fletchers" refer to those in the trade of arrowmaking as in other areas, or does it mean something else? 3. Did "fletchers"live in the same towns or villages as the Clothworkers or did they reside elsewhere in Co.Londonderry, and if so, where? Please email [email protected]

I have a Patrick Purcell in my background. He married an Elizabeth Ivey. I know nothing else about them. The were parents to my great-grandmother, Catherine Purcell. She was born in 1860. Are we in the same family? Hope to hear from you - Becky

"I cannot understand why the ship would call at a port so far south of the US." Frank, your comment brings to mind something I studied in an American History course back a while. I believe you will find that there was a "triangle" of trade among the colonies and Britain, with finished/manufactured goods from Britain, rum, cigars and sorghum/molasses from the Carribean, and raw goods of all sorts from the American colonies. Don't quote me on that as I may have the details askew but that is the general idea. Boats carrying these goods were not on such a regular schedule that the opportunity to use a passenger-laden ship could be passed up. Passengers and trade cargo were both carried on these early ships. Sharon Carberry Connecticut
Hi Frank, I think there are ships here from Havanna, Cuba. Several ways to search. Try the surname search first. http://istg.rootsweb.com/ Good luck, Rose Frank Neeson wrote: > Dear List members. > > Does anybody know if Havana, Cuba was a port of call for emmigrant ships > travelling from Ireland or England to Philadelphia in 1807. Dear List members. Does anybody know if Havana, Cuba was a port of call for emmigrant ships travelling from Ireland or England to Philadelphia in 1807. It seems that I may have an ancestor on the ship "Sally" but I cannot understand why the ship would call at a port so far south of the US. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks, Frank Neeson Melbourne Australia
http://www.rootsweb.com/~fianna/faq/irchat.html tells all, how to set up your puter to use mIRC, and how to get to the proper room on the proper server. Try it out! Go to #Genealogy instead of #Fian, and you'll very likely meet some nice folk almost anytime. #Fian only exists when we're there :) At 11:02 AM 7/14/99 -0400, you wrote: >I tried to get to rIRC #Fian but being my first time trying rIRC, I could >not figure it out on how to get in. These are the names I am searching for. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with any interest in any of these. Ann [email protected]
I tried to get to rIRC #Fian but being my first time trying rIRC, I could not figure it out on how to get in. I was so looking forward to it but I am glad it was a good party for those of you who succeeded. Jean Brown in North Carolina
Are there other years besides 1901 that Irish census data was collected? Can these be searched on the LDS site?

Slainte, Hugh The McLELLAN (McClelan, MacLelan, etc.) line. Peter McLellan, b. c-1735 in Scotland. (Rothsay ?) A McElman genealogy says the Peter McElman family and the McLellan family left for Londonderry Ireland in 1745, (near end of the Jacobite Rebellion) They lived in Londonderry 'til 1755 then emigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Another version is that they came with a group of Ulster/Irish under a Colonel Alexander McNutt, arriving in Halifax, 9 Oct,1761, in the vessel "Hopewell". In either case he made his way to what is now Great Village, Nova Scotia and wintered there "in the basement of a burnt-out Acadian house with a cow for company". This date seems consistant with his marraige date and the 1770 census of Londonderry, Nova Scotia. He married twice in Canada and had a large family. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------- McKITRICK, Co Down. William McKITRICK, b. - c1770, d. c1815 (Downpatrick, Co. Down) m. Anne ?? , b. c1774, d. c1851 They had 6 children from 1800 to 1815. (1) John, (2) Patrick (1801) m. Mary Simpson, (3) Robert (c1809) m. Jane ?, (4)George, (1811-1851) m. Rachel ? (5) James (c1813) m. Isabella Stevenson. (6) William, m. Isabella ? James/Isabella (5) came to Canada in 1850. They had seven children born in Ireland. He is my wifes Great Grandfather. Her Grandfather, Patrick was born in Canada. The McKitricks are said to have come to Ireland from Scotland in the early 1600's (plantation) to Lord Dufferans estate near Killyleagh, Co. Down. Some, it appears, got to Downpatrick later. Im looking for info on earlier generations of these McKitricks - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------ FETTERS, Co.
