    3. Viola, Bruce and I have connected off list. Kate - I wish I could say if there was any connection between our Armstrongs, but I know little about mine. Family story passed down is that Maxwell Armstrong's father was "Sweeper" John Armstrong (perhaps a sapper in the army) and Elizabeth Maxwell Buchanan. I have never been able to find a reliable source for this. In the townland of Lisrace, Maxwell Armstrong appears in 1796 as a Flax Grower, and a son is born there in 1796. According to a book I found online, Armstrongs from that townland were very involved in Methodism, and there was a John Armstrong, father of Robert and William who moved to Cavan, then in 1795 or 1796 to Drogheda, Co. Louth. It is possible these were Maxwell's brothers, but I have not found evidence. My ancestor, Maxwell's son Johnston, emigrated to Canada by 1837, and seems to have been followed by all his siblings by 1845 or so. Johnston had brothers Robert, Thomas and Christopher, possibly William, but I've not seen an Andrew, although that is a good Armstrong name !
