Viola you are right about never giving up. After years of trying to find a connection between my 1770s JOHN LAWSON family in Drumhorich, Drumkeeran and the HENRY LAWSON FAMILY a few miles down the road in Cahore, Ederny, Kerrie Alexander (also a Golder) and I have at last found a DNA link through the Ancestry test. We haven’t found a paper trail yet but you never know! Meanwhile I have found matches through Family tree MtDNA (T2e1a) and Ancestry Autosomal DNA with 2 people claiming they are descended from the CAMPBELL family of Argyll with lineage going back to the 1500s. I have no Campbell surnames on my extensive tree but am intrigued enough to pursue my maternal GGGG Grandmother’s maternal line. The Ancestry test shows I have 700 possible matches with people who have Campbell in their surname list. So enough to make me wonder if my trail goes back to Argyll! I note in his posting today that Bill Stansfield has a HOWE/CAMPBELL marriage in the 1850s but that took place in New York if I have correctly interpreted what he said. Anyone out there with CAMPBELL connections in Fermanagh?
Joan, There were HOWE and CAMPBELL families in Ballinamallard and surrounding area in the early 1900s. My mother and her 11 older siblings used to speak of Billie and Audley CAMPBELL's house as a 'gathering house' for the youth of the area. The HOWEs were further out towards Irvinestown, 'just a dander away' as many more people walked for pleasure in Mum's youth than now-a-days!. People met their life's companion at School, Church or through business. When the object of affection was not local Distance became no Object. Love found a way and those unions were lasting. There were no convenient "Partnerships" like today, which sometimes last longer than some modern marriages. Viola
My grandfather's mother was Margaret Campbell, daughter of Alexander Campbell & Fannie Farrell. My grandfather Henry Dixon was born in Ballydermot, near Bally Shannon & Laghy, in 1873. Not sure if there are any connections.
