    1. FERMANAGH-GOLD -For interest: transcription of memorial between Alexander Cowan of Shallony and William Russell Cowan of Texas and Mervyn Archdale
    2. This is a transcription of 1852 Vol 23 Memorial # 191, Memorial date 6 Oct 1852, Deed 4 Oct 1852 between Alexander Cowan of Shallony and William Russell Cowan of Texas and Mervyn Archdale. This refers back to a grand lease between the Archdales and Cowans for the townland of Clonkeen which was three lives renewed forever on payment of a fee. The indexes and deeds on FamilySearch are a great wealth of information. They can be found here: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/185720?availability=Family%20His tory%20Library From this memorial I was able to find out that Alexander Cowan was living in Texas for a period of time and that he was an attorney. Things I never knew before finding this memorial. Both Alexander and William were sons of Quartermaster Pattison Cowan of Shallony, Fermanagh. He was interesting . he married Charlotte Amelia Russell in 1799 in the Queen of Portugal's Chapel in Portugal. When he and his wife returned to Ireland, they married again in the Church of Ireland in 1829, perhaps to ensure that their union would be recognised. This was particularly important for Charlotte later on after Pattison's death as she was seeking access to a pension after his death. Charlotte was the daughter of Charles Russell, Esq., British Vice-Consul in Rio de Janeiro. This particular deed is from this page: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSJW-YJV7?i=156 <https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSJW-YJV7?i=156&cat=185720 > &cat=185720 In the Register appointed by act of Parliament for the Public Registering of deeds Wills and so forth.
