    2. Thank you to all who wrote. Anne, it's annoying that the birthplace is often just "Ireland" but sometimes you get lucky. In the 1881 census in Middlesbrough my gg-grandfather's cousin Catherine Mc Quade's birthplace was "Enniskillen, Ireland" and in Liverpool James and Ellen Snow's birthplace was " Farmagh, Ireland". At least some of the Ellis Island immigration records to New York give the county. FamilySearch lets you search their whole collection by name and birthplace. Dee, we'll keep comparing notes on our Snow relatives. I look forward to seeing whether you and Ellish show up on my list of DNA matches. Good luck with your recovery. Viola, I'm a great fan of FreeBMD. Even though I currently subscribe to Ancestry and FindMyPast, I still check FreeBMD first. I like the search engine and if I find something I especially want it's easy to follow the links and order the certificate. I know it is frustrating. I wish these people had not just said in: parish book, census records and tombstones that they were from “Ireland.” In one cemetery, near Ottawa, I found an Adam Geddes, wife Mary Ann Nixon, who was from Fermanagh, (tombstone) so I thought it likely that others in the cemetery were from Fermanagh. Putting this evidence together with other clues, including dna evidence, helps to build a case. Jo's came back, and exactly what we expected. From memory, 2 SNOW matches. Due to my undergoing recent radiation treatment, I kept my kit for 4 months and then sent it for analysis. Unfortunately, yesterday Ancestry notified me that they could not obtain a result form my DNA, and have re-issues another kit so I shall try again. When it arrives I shall again wait for a few months for the dead cells to disappear before sending it back. We will finally be able to compare. Eilish, on this list, is also related to Matthew and Rose, she will also have the test. Kindly, Dee. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 May 2018 00:34:40 +0100 From: Viola Wiggins <vmaw3434@gmail.com> Subject: FERMANAGH-GOLD -Re: DNA links Middlesbrough Snows to Fermanagh To: This list is for those researching their ancestors in Fermanagh and surrounding counties in Ireland <fermanagh-gold@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <B4E8B13B-4AE8-4F6A-A289-BCB6A75B9DEA@gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Sheila Have you looked at the FreeCen And FreeBmd websites for your family in Middlesborough, North Riding Yorkshire. Those BMDs are Transcribed records and Free to Search. Dates are shown by quarters of the year If you find a Marriage click on the Page Number will give you a selection of the 2nd party. There are a lot of BMD records for SNOW in Middlesborough. A good few DUFFY and DOLAN as well. None there in 1821 and I've not looked at the other census dates available. It might be worth checking Telephone Directories for a living descendant still in the area. Yorkshire folk. Tend to stick close to home. I lived in Yorkshire for over 35 years. Good hunting. 3. In the 1881 census what age was the McQuade born Enniskillen? Search irishgenealogy.ie for her birth which should give (a) the address where she was born. (b) her mother's former name. Searching for the Surname only can sometimes uncover other information or siblings. Only snag may be that RC Civil Registration did not start until c1864. You just might be lucky and find her and siblings. Good hunting. That Enniskillen could mean the Union of Enniskillen, formed c1840 and which took in c360 square miles and a number of. Parishes.
