    1. FERMANAGH-GOLD Town of Buchanan?

    3. Has anyone heard of a town or village or barony or parish (or anything) named Buchanan?  I'm looking at a Chicago death certificate from 1928.  I'd swear it says the deceased Kate Burtchaell's parents were born in Buchanan (or maybe it says Bachanan).  I have always understood that her father Archdall was from Kilkenny, although he may have been born in Carlow. Her mother Maria Doyle, on the other hand, is a complete mystery to her Canadian descendants. I went to the site on Irish place names that someone recently kindly posted. http://www.irish-place-names.com/ The only Buchanan I could find is listed as Tattykeel (Buchanan) in Tyrone.  So when I googled Tattykeel (Buchanan) I found this link to Ask About Ireland which gave me these Griffiths listings for the town in Tyrone.  Going deeper into that site, it gives me a list of residents, and there isn't a Burtchaell or a Doyle among them:http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doPlaceSearch&Submit.x=31&Submit.y=10&Submit&freetext=Tattykeel&countyname=Tyrone&baronyname=&unionname=&parishname=Drumragh  Can anyone make any suggestions or share any information? 3. My father was born in Kilkeeny but the registry office was in Co. Carlow for his area, he was born Paulstown Castle, which is near the Burtchaells so possibly similar situation?? You could try www.logainm.ie/en and see what that throws out for Buchanan... 3. Linda, I don’t know of any current townland in Fermanagh with the name Buchanan in it. However, there was an old castle in the current townland of Rathmoran which I’ve seen recorded as Buchanan's Castle. As it was very common for landlords at the time to rename the estate after themselves, it is possible that an area was called that as some time in history, but then reverted back to the original name. There is a John Buchanan living in Rathmoran on the GV. Unfortunately links to the GV never seem to work for me, but just do a placename search for Rathmoran.
