I have a general question about records and record searching. I¹ve posted before about John Noble, born in Fermanagh in the late 1840s, emigrated to America as a child and raised by Anthony and Margaret (Corrigan) Scollon in Meriden, CT. A very helpful list member, also on Ancestry, pointed out to me that a Margaret Corrigan, who married Anthony Scollon in America, was married earlier, in Ireland, to a John Noble, and that MY John Noble was probably her son. This member also thought that they were all Catholics. If I were to search for a Noble-Corrigan marriage sometime in the 1840s, where would I look? There is a 15-year old John Noble, son to John and Rose Noble, in the 1841 census in Drumkeeran parish, Townland Dromore Big. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very thankful. Hi James, My g-g-grandmother was Ellen Corrigan with at least one sister Anne Corrigan. They were born around 1810 and lived in Curraghmore which is in Drumkeeran parish. These women were both RC. So maybe you are looking for RCs too and religion is important in tracking people. One little brick! James NOBLE was usually protestant but there were mixed marriages where the Boys were reared as RC and Girls Protestant. CORRIGAN was usually RC but the same senario applied. 'Way back in those times some RC registered as protestant for political reasons to comply with the laws in force regarding land ownership and being recognised for Office holding. NOBLE families were located around Drumkeeran Parish in the Pettigo, and around Ederney, Kesh and Lowtherstown [Irvinestown] areas. A google search for "NOBLE FAMILY NAME" might help you find ancient information. Viola --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com
