Hi Ron - If you send me the names of the brothers/sisters, I'll try to look them up for you. But you should be able to find them on the FG website. I have one ancestor in the Pettigo area with the last name of Kearns but some of her brothers/sisters are spelled Cairns. You have to use your imagination sometimes. I've come across several family trees on Ancestry where I see that the owners have copied my info without contacting me as to whether there might be a connection. They just plop my info into their tree. And then someone else comes along, looks at their tree, decides that person is theirs too, and the problem gets bigger & bigger. I've learned not to copy anything from Ancestry without checking it first. - Jane From: juderon@gmail.com Subject: Re: FERMANAGH-GOLD William Mathew Shaw Date: Fri, 12 Jun 2015 09:54:52 +1200 To: andixj@hotmail.com Thanks Jane The 1844 one certainly is a candidate... One thing I'm finding is that people change their names as they journey through life... Our grandfather's certified birth certificate has him born Mathew (one T) Shaw... when he started school in 1889 as a five year old his school register has him as Matthew (double TT) Martin Shaw... The names on certified birth certificates on his 9 brother ad sisters are, in some cases different to the death certificate and even the names mentioned in their parents wills... So I'm learning fast that I need to apply a dgree of bounded rationality... That said, I've come across several folk who have morphed two people into one... eg, my paternal grandmother was born in devon and moved to and died in NZ... there are a couple of family trees I've come across where another woman of the same name and birth date (born and died in York, but lived much of her life in Devon) was 'married' to my grandfather in the family tree... They mixed them up. I would have to assume matthew and mathew were the same person... I'm getting William's formal death certificate to see if I can get some more clues... Needless to say, critical thinking is a pre-requisite for the journey I'm on... and helpful folk like you and others on here.
