Most of my immigrant ancestors came to Philadelphia in the late 1840s-50s. One gr-gr-grandmother was probably in her teens. When asked where in Ireland she was from, her answer was "If Ireland had been any good, I never would have left." In a later USA census she said she was born in Philadelphia. Understandable reaction - but doesn't help my research!
