Dave The Personal Files (PF) held by MI5 and other “secret services” (e.g. SOE) on people, whether members, or targets are closed for 100 years. Originally, MI5 used to destroy the defunct files on people who were subject to an investigation for one reason or another, but at some point there was a change in policy and they are now handed over to the The National Archives in London once they are no longer wanted by the service which created them. Even if they’re still closed, the files are catalogued (MI5 PFs have the KV 2 class number) and if proof of death is provided, TNA will open the file. (The SOE List has provided numerous proofs of death and had many SOE PFs (class HS 9) opened in the past couple of years. I don’t know in which TNA class number the Easter Rising files to which you refer are held.
