    3. Indeed many soldiers etc were led into bogs by people being chased who knew where the footpads were. Where I lived before there was actually a road made across the bog during famine times and my land map showed it cutting across the corner of the field, no sign of it now as it was covered over again but the "road" went across the bog to River Shannon. The bog floods in winter yet one can actually walk across it if they know where the "road" is, go off it and sink 2 or 3 feet. A lot of the old bogs had their safe pads to cross them.
