    3. Finally rollin' 'round to answering the call… On my father’s maternal side, Sarah ARMSTRONG married Christopher KERR (or CARR) in Morris Township, Huron County, Ontario in 1857 by a Bible Christian minister (Methodist). Sarah was born, I believe, Feb. 1837 to James ARMSTRONG and Isabella IRVINE, in Portnabligh, Templecarn Parish, Co. Fermanagh. A brother was born in Augalurcher in 1832. Lore has it they went to Canada soon after Sarah’s birth. That’s all I know about her ancestry, and nothing for sure about Christopher KERR’s except that there may be some connection to Peterborough, Ontario and also links to a WELSH (or WALSH) family. Sarah and Christopher subsequently were part of a fairly large wagon train from Huron County to Howard County, Nebraska to become homesteaders. (Considering the poor soil, weather and the locust invasions, they would have been better off staying in Ontario.) I follow FG regularly from Detroit, Michigan. Warren Dean wtdean@mac.com

    3. Warren, Portnabligh (Portnablagh?) is on the coast of Co Donegal, so I think you are searching miles away from Fermanagh. The Townland nearest to the name you give I think should be "PORTNABLAGHY". I suggest searching the c1828-32 Tithe Applotment Records for that Townland's Occupier's or for Sarah's father. Those records, like Griffith's Valuation, records the Heads of families occupying an area of land. What was the Brother's given name born in Aghalurcher? Sometimes the Given names follow a naming pattern which can give clues to the given names of Grandparents. First born son named after Maternal Gfather. First born daughter after paternal Gmother.
