    3. Hi Dee, Back to you at last. I recently had a DNA test done on Ancestry.com. I made contact with a lady in USA who says that my DNA matched with her 2 brothers. Her Great Grandfather Felix born in 1833 in Enniskilleen could be a brother to my Great Grandfather James born Enniskillen in 1836. I have the birth date from a family bible one of my 2 nd cousins has. James born 18 Oct 1836. His military records say 18 Oct 1836 Parish of St Michaels, Town Innis, Co Fermanagh. This lady has no record of Felix birth or parents except to say he was born Nov 1833 Enniskillen. On James death certificate his parents are named John Dolan and Mary Ann Carey. I have a fair bit of info on his Military records including that he enlisted in the Militia at aged 18. He was in the Military from 1855 till 1877, 20 years in India. He married in India had several children in India, Lancashire, and Brisbane. My grandmother Delia was the last of his ten children born here in Brisbane in 1887. So apart from being born their are no other legal type documents in Ireland pertaining to him. I have searched the Catholic Birth Registers online but found no trace. The family emigrated to Brisbane from Liverpool on the Western Monarch arriving in Brisbane 12 Oct 1883. James died in Brisbane May 1895 aged 58 years. His wife Bridget Annie Scott was 11 years younger and moved to Ingham where the sons worked on the cane trains at Victoria Mill and one in Innisfail. Great Grandmother is buried in Townsville with a son Edward who died rather young. Edward was the Licensee of the Halifax Hotel for a time. I lived in Townsville for 14 years but I was not doing genealogy so I had no idea I lived about 20 minutes away from my second cousin in Ingham. Of course I have visited him since as we go back to Townsville to see my husbands family and he was the one who showed me the family bible. 7 of the children reached adulthood in Brisbane and married and had children. Some married into the Kelly, O’Dea and Humphry Families. I am wondering if John Dolan is brother to your gg grandfather Felix?? I fancy he was born 1805 and have found a death record for John Dolan Enniskillen about 1880? Will try and get a copy of this death certificate. I would appreciate any help as I am at quite sixes and sevens with this family. It is believed that all of this surname in Fermanagh were related, but it is difficult to decide which branch of the family your James came from. Every child born to every branch in every generation had the given names of John, James, Patrick, Hugh etc - can you give me any further data on the exact family you seek? Was James actually born in Enniskillen as noted on a birth cert -did you search the Catholic Birth Registers online? Where in Australia did they immigrate to? Your Mary Ann Carey rings a bell in my brain - perhaps I have come across this couple in my search. The 1836 date would indicate he may be of the Dolans of Sandhill Townland (near Derrygonnelly) - the patriarch of this branch was Owen Dolan (c1793-c1870, who was the brother of my gg-grandfather Felix Dolan (c1795-1886) of Meenagleragh. Would appreciate any further data you could give me, and I shall search through my records and see what is there. I see you live in Brisbane, I am on Lamb Island in Moreton Bay :-) Kindly, Dee.

    3. Hello Di, Thank you for the data you have sent. We are certainly related, but in exactly how will take some working out. I shall look over what you sent over the next few days and get back to you. The given name Felix is all through the Dolan history, from one Archbishop Felix Dolan in the 13th century. 'Born Nov 1833 Enniskillen' may possibly mean this birth was recorded at that place, not that the family lived there, and we will need to work out what 'Town Innis' means also. Is there a St Michael's Church in Enniskillen? Researching Ireland is never as simple as it appears to be initially, and DOLAN in particular can be a minefield :-) - but we will surely get there eventually. If any other Golden friend reading this post can help with any of the above I would be delighted to hear from you. Meanwhile, please feel free to use my personal mail address for any long mails, and we can post our results to the Group in general so other DOLAN seekers may be helped. Kind regards, Dee. <snip> Hi Dee, Back to you at last. I recently had a DNA test done on Ancestry.com. I made contact with a lady in USA who says that my DNA matched with her 2 brothers. 3. Di and Dee, I am delighted for you both and hope you can both make the link and if I can help I will. The RC Chapel and the RC School in Enniskillen are both called St Michaels. Remember information given about a person after their death is what someone who thinks they know about the deceased. Innis means "Island" and the military Regiments were " Inniskilling !" So I'd bet good money that in this case Innis is Enniskillen. If there's anything I can do to help unravel the knot, Dee and Di, including asking the Monsignor in charge, or asking Frankie, just send me the facts off list. Viola

    3. Thanks Viola, I hope we can make a connection. Irish genealogy is hard but little gems come along I hope that happens in this case. 3. Thank you, Vi dear, You can bet we shall do that, and Frankie and the Monsignor also :-) The Fermanagh Ferret has already struck, as you have already explained the Innis part - I was trying to think of what island it could be - naturally my lax mind immediately went to Boa. Now thinking Di's ancestor could be the third son of my gggrandfather Felix of Meenagleragh, you recall I discovered that he went to Enniskillen and eventually became a cattle trader there. If so, Di could also be related to Gaby Burns through his mother's ancestors! And to think that Di and I live in the same part of the world - almost neighbours in this big continent. It's exciting!
