I consider myself very lucky to have had such a wonderful childhood and parents who worked cross community long before the expression was invented! Memories from life are like revisiting those days, but one needs some one or some thing to trigger them. A chance remark by someone will remind me of an experience. Like when my brother Byrom, and I were returning home and passing through the local village. One formidable lady was standing in her doorway, arms. Behind her was her daughter a couple of years older than I was. She stated to call me names, so I reached round her mother, grabbed her braided hair, and pulled her out onto the footpath. Her mother never spoke, but I shouted in the girl's ear "Sticks and Stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me! And if you ever do that to me again you are dead" My brother pulled me off her. I never had trouble from her again! That was the only real scrap I ever had. Byrom told my mother about it and I got grounded for a week! I think I'd be about 7 when that happened, so a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then, but the memory is as if it happened yesterday.
