Ah! Dearest Viola! How we are all so blessed with your stories! They always bring a smile to my day. Happy Easter to you and all our wonderful friends in Fermanagh! And everyone on the list. Also to wish one and all a very happy Easter. We used to build a special wee shack using all sorts of materials. It included a fireplace and a bar to hang a "Sweetie Can" over the fire. We got the fire going while the adults milked the cows and fed the calves and animals. We filled the can with eggs, and put a kettle on to boil. We'd toast bread using long handled three pronged Toasting Fork in front of the fire. The tea was 'wet' when we heard the buckets being washed and put 'to draw' beside the fire, then the can of eggs, two per person with cold water, so the shells did not crack. By the time everyone was ready the eggs were cooked, toast buttered and cups of tea handed out. No breakfast of the year ever tasted as good as the one in our Easter House. When the Evacuees were with us we had to have three sittings. Being from Belfast City they had never had such a treat. That old custom seems to have died out now but children now would never be allowed to work over an open fire with boiling kettles and cans of eggs in boiling water in case they hurt themselves! I think we were born with that instinct or it was drilled into us, or perhaps we were just lucky that we never had any accidents. TG for my wonderful Parents again. HAPPY EASTER to everyone in our Golden Family. Viola Sent from my iPad
