Marge, Did you already check for an obit in the diocesan newspaper? Janet ------------------------ Rob, Yes, he is the one. There is a lot more information about him in newspapers and books (especially regarding Cesar Chavez). I met him on several occasions and he even married (performed the ceremony) my cousin. However, when his mother, Bridget Shea Donnelly, died he gave the information and did not know her mother's name! I am hoping that it would be in those admission records. His mother and my grandmother were cousins and that information could help me break down that Shea brick wall. Slán, Marge in Southern California
Yes, I have all of the articles from the Catholic Transcript covering pages 1, 4, 6, 8, & 9 the week of his death. There was one very small paragraph on "survivors" and another that mentioned St. Thomas Seminary. It also mentioned St. Mary's in Baltimore, but he would have only gone there for a short time and I did get a recording when I called there yesterday. The rest of the articles focused on his many accomplishments over the course of his religious life. The following week they published photos of the funeral and the "homily"/eulogy that the archbishop gave which I also have. I never met his siblings as they lived out of state, but it's hard to find my relatives in the photos! His funeral was attended by 32 bishops and "some" 400 priests! I certainly am proud of being related to him although I think he should have known his maternal grandmother's name and his mother's correct birth date! What is interesting is that if his grandfather Denis Shea married Bridget Sullivan and Denis' sister, my great-grandmother Mary Shea married Patrick Sullivan, did they each marry a sibling? If so, the bishop and I are doubly related! When my Dad went into the Navy as a teenager, he listed Bridget (the bishop's mother) as his next of kin, rather than one of his siblings. Both of his parents were deceased at the time. I started this hours ago and keep getting sidetracked, so I am sending it now. Hope you had a happy St. Pat's day.
