Given that the church would be more interested in recording the baptism and the record would be penned shortly after the event, I would conclude that the registrar just forgot to calculate the birth year correctly. So probably born in 1858. I know myself that the first few days into a new year I tend to find myself using the previous year. It can take a while to train the brain to use the correct year. But by February one would think the year would be pretty well embedded to not make that mistake! Are there any other clues, such as the sequence of events in the register?
