My John Irwin Sr. & Jr. and families are said to have come from Fermanagh in 1831 to Canada, and previously from Scotland to Ulster right around 1800. They stayed in Montreal 3 years, one employed as a tailor, then moved to Ontario, lived in several places over 30 years, then John Irwin & Mary McEwen Irwin moved to Honesdale, PA (my g-grandparents). They were listed as Church of England. I have hired a small amount of research done in Ontario...Belmore was founded by Irwin brothers Francis, John & William, and Francis was a prominent, permanent citizen. Belmore is also found in Fermanagh, so I have an unsubstantiated hunch they came from that area. So far, I have not located records for the ship they came across on, and have found nothing concrete to connect the family with any of the numerous John Irwins listed in Fermanagh or counties outwith.
