    3. My Great Great Grandfather was William Elliott (1833 - 1874) born Fermanagh. His father was also William. He married Ellen Armstrong (1839 - 1907) in *Trory* on 6 Feb 1855 . Her father was Edward Armstrong. They had 4 children born in Fermanagh - Margaret Jane 1858; Elizabeth 1860;Sarah 1862; and Annie 1864 then Thomas 1867, Rebecca 1869, Susan 1873 born in Lancashire. I have suspicions that there is a link to “Orange Peggy"- "Queen of Trasna". I am hoping to connect with persons interested in this line and look forward to being part of the group! Sue, great to have another descendant searching for Elliott roots in Fermanagh. I have corresponded with two other researchers connected to Orange Peggy and the Elliott family of Trasna. Unfortunately a computer malfunction, so my correspondence with both Madelene Inglis who descends from this Elliott family and Henry Robinson, then President of the Magheracross Historical Society who is connected to the McQuaid family (Peggy’s maiden name) is no longer available! There is however some information about this Trasna Elliott family on Google. This www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/fermanagh/church.htm link will give you the transcribed parish records for the Fermanagh churches in the area you are searching. Hopefully the B.D and M. records for both your Elliott and Armstrong families have been recorded. Best Wishes, Carole (Elliott) Searching for William Elliott and Rebecca Wilson of Irvinestown and associated Moffit, Irvine, Hunter and Meldrum families from the same area

They went on to have 2 more children, Rebecca in 1869 (my great grandmother) and Susan in 1873. I am informed that the family were strong Orangemen and continued to be so when they crossed the Irish Sea. 2. Hi Carole I've only just discovered Rootsweb and am thrilled to find people looking for Elliotts from Fermanagh. My Grt Grandfather was William Elliott born +/- 1833 in Fermanagh (not quite sure where). He married Ellen Armstrong in Trory in 1855. They later moved to NW England. There is some discussion that there is a link to Orange Peggy from Trasna, but we can't find the missing generational link. Would love to hear from you on this topic. Sue Winn

    3. Hi Brenda, My ggg grandmother was Mary (or Anne) (or Maryanne??) JOHNSTON born 1757 Colaghty - daughter of Matthias & Elizabeth JOHNSTON. I don’t have any sources for this information - it was contained in a family tree I inherited some years ago. Over the years I have collected bits of information regarding JOHNSTONs of Colaghty if you would like this information. I don’t know how common the name Muldoon was but I know there were a few of them married and came to the south coast of New South Wales. 3. Hello Margaret Barnes My 3rd Great grandparents are John F FERGUSON (born about 1794 died 28 March 1852 in Enniskillen, Fermanagh) married Jane MORROW (born 1796 Dungannon, Tyrone, Northern Ireland died Felltimber Creek, Victoria, Australia 13 Aug 1870). Most of their 11 children were born in or around Enniskillen, Fermanagh. She came to Victoria on the Ship Gypsy Bride in March 1857 following some of her children ie daughter Jane FERGUSON and bringing some with her. Jane Morrow is the daughter of George MORROW and Jane CAMERON from County Tyrone. Through DNA testing I know there was a sister Catherine MORROW born 1802 who married a Lyth PRIESTMAN in Armagh, Northern Ireland and then went to Canada. I wonder if there are other siblings of George MORROW and Jane CAMERON from County Tyrone. Perhaps they also married and headed for County Fermanagh. Regards Sheryl Campbell Western Australia 4. 3. There may be no connection, but.... Apart from this and a number of other Rootsweb lists, I’m also a subscriber to several Yahoo based lists. Yahoo has been causing grief with posts being timed out and returned to sender as undeliverable after about four days. I’m receiving the posts of one history Yahoo list to which I subscribe whose membership is largely British and European based, but my posts are not getting through to it. The owner of another yahoo list is Australian based and he’s having the same problems whereas the North American members don’t. So is there a common geographical connection with these problems? 2. Jack Fallin
    3. Dear David, My speculation that the path to the killer might have come through one of the conventional DNA analysis providers [FTDNA, Ancestry, 23and Me, etc.] was incorrect. Additional information has now come out to the effect that the track the police used was a separate website, GedMatch, that offers the service of pooling reports from the basic providers and attempting to locate matches. Although I joined GedMatch some time back (so some of my data is there), I don’t really use it for much. GedMatch’s attraction for the investigators was that it’s apparently an open-source volunteer service without much in the way of privacy protections. Jack > Begin forwarded message: > > From: Jack Fallin <jakff@astound.net> > Subject: Digest, Vol 14, Issue 119; DNA and the Golden State Killer > Date: April 27, 2018 at 7:18:43 PM PDT > To: fermanagh-gold@rootsweb.com > > Hey David, > > We can expect to see a lot of this sort of publicity. I would imagine that they searched for Y-DNA matches (perhaps by just signing on using the crime Y-DNA as that of a customer). With matches in hand they likely split it geographically and looked hard at families in roughly the right locations. Still, it was a shot in the dark because, compared with the overall population, very few people have actually tested. > > What the quoted story doesn’t include, as some do, is that they then captured some actual DNA from the suspect and that’s what is going to convict him. The DNA used by the FBI and others is a different test from any offered by the commercial companies. It’s essentially an STR test that tests fast changing locations on autosomal chromosomes. Because the locations change quickly they are poor candidates for the kind of long-range connections genealogists are looking for - but they are precisely what is needed to pinpoint a single individual. > > The quote from a “public defender” (i.e. a defense attorney paid by the state) that “[p]eople who submit DNA for ancestors testing are unwittingly becoming genetic informants on their innocent family,” is just silly - it’s the positive identification through fast changing STR sites that will convict a person, not the slow system genealogists use. Finding criminals like this one benefits all of us, and those who contributed deserve credit for ‘unwittingly’ helping to capture a monster. > > Jack Fallin > Walnut Creek, CA > >> On Apr 27, 2018, at 5:02 PM, fermanagh-gold-request@rootsweb.com <mailto:fermanagh-gold-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: >> >> Today's Topics: >> >> 4.
