Please, I have had a great experience with FTDNA. That said, it is not the purpose of this forum to bash some entity that you were not pleased with. Let's get back to Fermanagh and our ancestors! Morning Listers, Well, well, well. Because of my rant yesterday about my misadventures with FTDNA, I have now received an email from FTDNA because somebody on the forum allegedly forwarded my post to them. I now have an apology over the incident and an offer to send two free tests. But nobody signed this email, although they are using the same reference number used during the ongoing debacle. So I don't know who I am talking to, although they make reference to the two people who were mishandling this case. So, Mr/Ms Nobody has apologised. Now, who could have reported this, or alternatively, *who is **watching**this list?* If I'd posted my frustrations months ago, I may not have had to endure the inept customer service that FTDNA provide to their Paypal customers. And they have access to my full post because they know I have a Y-DNA kit. Curiouser and Curiouser! Eilish
Eilish, You also appear to not receive my emails, as I have emailed you privately and not received responses. I am ccing to BOTH of your email addresses, so if you do not receive this you will know that it is on your end, not RW's end. Please let me know. I suspect that Fer-Gold and my addresss have gone into your blocked addresses for some reason. I have gotten Fer-Gold in my SPAM folder that were NOT SPAM and released them and set the address as a "Friend." I have also received SPAM lately from addresses that I recognize from Fer-Gold or other RW lists that I know are NOT from those people. Those I leave in Spam and do nothing with the address as I know they will come through the lists. I suggest you check all of your settings on both of your email addresses to see if this is the problem. My first cousin(Fermanagh side of family) is married to a Speer whom she met, I presume, in Toronto. Her son has visited Ireland, and has done the ftdna tests. I will ask him if he has heard from any Fermanagh people. Hi Marge, I can post but can't see posts. Help! Thankfully people are answering them so I know they have arrived at FG. Thanks to all! Eilish
Eilish, Sorry to hear that you had so much trouble! I and my Fermanagh descendent cousins have tested with ft-dna, so I hope more Fermanagh people will do so. I want more matches. Looking for Ross, Nixon, Acheson, Bustard and Watterson people! As you say, paying the regular way with a credit card works. My friend ordered 4 kits a short time ago, and they have made it “all the way” to Canada. Just a quick correction...men can take the mt-dna test or mitochondrial dna test. One of my cousins did. He now knows he belongs to his mother’s family.’ As his mother was born out of wedlock. However, a man’s son will only have his mother’s mitochondrial dna. He cannot pass mt-dna on to a son or a daughter. Only the mother passes it along. It is really worth listening to a podcast on You-Tube by someone such as Dr. Maurice Gleeson. He explains the basics very well. Otherwise you have little idea how to handle your dna results. Anne in Ottawa From: Eilish Gmail Sent: June 24, 2018 9:18 PM To: fermanagh-gold@rootsweb.com; Eilish Subject: FERMANAGH-GOLD -My experience with Family Tree DNA tests Hi All, Many of you have had your DNA done through various companies, whether it be FT, Ancestry, 23 and me or another. Here's what happened to me. A friend and I decided to get both our autosomal and mtDNA tests done through FTDNA. Obviously we are both female. FTDNA advertise that they accept Paypal. They do and they don't. We started this odyssey in January and what started as a fun and exciting excursion into what lies inside became a nightmare. First, we couldn't pay by Paypal as advertised, but had to go through an administrative process, the likes of which would make getting into the Kremlin inner circle a walk in the park. A series of increasingly infuriating encounters with the most brain-addled staff kept my friend and me in a state of waiting and explaining and re-explaining what we wanted, ie. to pay via Paypal as advertised. We live in different states so there was no connection between us as customers other than the absolute failure of this company to give a link that would work to a Paypal process for which it is clear Family Tree would prefer not to use. We were both independently sent links that did not work, yet they insisted they did. So they'd send another. I asked why they didn't they just have a Paypal button to click at the check out like most vendors. No reply. My friend, after six months has given up. I told them their service was so poor that if they had any business sense they would try to remedy the situation by sending a free kit since they were able to offer such huge discounts for Mothers Day. No reply. I kept getting emails that I had not paid for my kit. I kept telling them I had received no viable link to pay them. This has gone on for months. Both of us have put in complaints. As they are located in Houston there was a phrase I was dying to use! The final outcome is that after 6 months , a test arrived in my mail box last week. It was a yDNA test. As mentioned, I am a female. If they can't read what's in my cart, I no longer trust them enough to give them my DNA because I might get the results of someone else's scrapings given their track record so far. Anyway after 6 months, I have given up on them. Not come across such appalling service in years. So if you want to use PayPal rather than give out your credit card details to a bunch of morons, beware of FTDNA. If you use your credit card there are likely no problems. A few days there then north to my Scottish Ancestral home at Kirremuir. A few days there with a couple of Highland side trips, Braemar, Balmoral and the spectacular surrounds...returning to Dublin to recover before heading home. We were 'across the Pond. 32 days...it went by in a blurrrrr. Record everything you can !! > > May the Weather Goddess smile on you....we had amazing good fortune....very little rain. When we were on Dingle Peninsula April 16-19...bright sun, cloudless sky...people(not us) swimming in the Ocean ! It was hard to leave there especially after having discovered our Grandson's (travelling with us) Family farm at Ballyandreen, overlooking Dingle Bay. Just realized I'm gettin carried away here....You get the idea...you're gonna be 'Over the Moon' and you won't wanna go home > > Safe Travels > > Rob in > > MA Shire's > >> On June 8, 2018 at 4:58 AM Viola Wiggins wrote: >> >> >> Kate, >> Riverside Farm B&B, on the Derrylin Road is a Home From Home and many Golders have stayed there.
