Carl, Your story reminds me of an incident in the 1950s in Enniskillen, when the 'Bus Station was in Eden Street, which is now the Pay Car Park.. Two National Service Airmen, from RAF Castle Archdale, had missed their 'Last Bus home' and, as the Buses in that Depot was never locked, they stole one and managed to get it out of the narrow Eden Street gate of the Depot (No mean feat with a car, never mind a bus). They drove it up Eden Street, turned right at the Diamond and on past the two War Memorials. They got as far as the newly opened "Farmer's Mart", where Dunns Store is now, where they crashed into the Wall of the Mart, right in front of RUC Constable Jackie Clarke, and promptly fell asleep in the Bus. Jackie called the Military Police (Red Caps) and the boys were arrested and charged with the offence. My late husband, Ken, was Duty Cpl and on Guard duty when they were returned to the Guard Room at Castle Archdale. It was the talk of the town at that time and is probably recorded in the Impartial Reporter of that time. I can't remember their names but one of them had received a "Dear John " letter from his girlfriend on the day before and had been drowning his sorrows. Ken and I used to laught about it every time we arrived in that Bus Depot from England for years after. I do NOT drink and drive. My licence is worth far more than a drink. Living in the country with no 'bus service I'd be lost without my little car. Viola --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com
Indeed the time comes when every man needs to settle down and start a career! One shouldn't rush these things as the rest of their life may depend on it... it's important to make right choice! I see on the Rev's Will he's down as Moffite... Found great write ups for 2 of mine simply by looking up the churches they were at.. came from 'wherever' then moved to 'wherever' as part of the history of those churches.... Found this entry on "Curious Fox website The peculiar name combination with Lowry as a given name looks like there may be a Lowry marriage somewhere in his ancestors, and is probably related to your Harry L Moffitt MOFFITT, John Thomas Lowry Born about 1840, Fermanagh, died 1923 Victoria Australia. Happy Birthday, Vi, and thanks for your many years of phenomenal service to our group! Most sincerely, Jim in Charlotte
Hi all new to the list Following an Australian WW 1 soldier, Harry Lowry MOFFITT was born 1883 Victoria Australia and died 19 July 1916 at Fromelles. He is fairly certainly one of the 250 soldiers found in a mass grave in France in 2008. Harry was in the 53rd Battalion. Australian Imperial Forces AIF.. We are trying to find Moffitt relatives in Ireland who might ultimately help us identify Harry. His parents were George Lowry Moffitt b 4 July 1847 Eniskillen, Fermanagh and Rebecca MINNS from England. They married in Australia George is the son of Rev James MOFFITT, (Methodist) and Mary LOWRY abt 1810 to 9 Oct 1847. There are no surviving male MOFFITT lines in Australia. The grandfather James Moffitt, died 5 Jan 1877 at Knocks, Fermanagh. He was probably born abt 1807 What we need to know is about James Moffitt. Would his death or marriage show his parents? We feel the only viable line we will find, will be with any brothers of James. I would be most grateful for any advice and we would like to know if it is possible to find this type of certificate information. We may be able to hire a genealogist or pay for research done if that is the way to go. kind regards Marg O'Leary Fromelles Association (see Facebook or web page for Fromelles Project) Port Stephens NSW

Marg, Welcome to Fer-Gold. You have certainly come to the right list to seek help in your important and historic quest - if anyone can help find your Moffits it will be members of this group. We in Oz are soon to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli by the combined ANZAC men of Australia and New Zealand so naturally any WW1 battle fought by our boys is of the utmost importance. Fromelles was an incredibly hard-fought and desperate battle, costing many lives, and it's nothing short of miraculous that so many single and mass graves are finally coming to light throughout France and elsewhere in Europe. I pray you can trace living family through our wonderful Fermanagh Golders, and obtain the DNA you need to identify your loved one.
