Dave, contact the Tourist's information office, and make an appointment for half an hour free advice by volunteers of Fermanagh Genealogical Centre, at present meeting people in the TIOffice by appointment on specific days. Monday's and Thursday's except Bank Holidays. Do your homework before your appointment so that new ground can be covered. Pointless a volunteer searching for a date, only to be told you already have that information. The same applies to requests for help on this list. The library has a collection of Newspapers on M Film. When you know what date you'll be in Enniskillen let me know and I will try and meet with you. Marge, Did you already check for an obit in the diocesan newspaper? Janet ------------------------ Rob, Yes, he is the one. There is a lot more information about him in newspapers and books (especially regarding Cesar Chavez). I met him on several occasions and he even married (performed the ceremony) my cousin. However, when his mother, Bridget Shea Donnelly, died he gave the information and did not know her mother's name! I am hoping that it would be in those admission records. His mother and my grandmother were cousins and that information could help me break down that Shea brick wall. Slán, Marge in Southern California
A good example of checking other counties for kin!! Many of my kin lived in one Parish and attended churches miles away in different parish! Their records are not in their local church but in church they went to! DH FERMANAGH-GOLD Dispensations CLIBBORN GARLAND Date: Thu, 17 Mar 2016 08:58:51 +0000 (UTC) References: <[email protected]> In-Reply-To: <[email protected]> Hi Everyone, I have missed FG but put the extra time to good use and I HAVE NOW FOUND the CLIBBORN GARLAND 1839 marriage I have been searching for FOREVER!!! I took advantage of the index to Catholic PRs on Ancestry and made a few mental jumps and there it was, but the Clibborn name was so faint the indexer had not picked it up at all. So I transferred to the NLI site because that has better screen enhancements and ONLY because I knew it was there I could read every letter! This was in the next county to where I had been looking. I am very grateful to Eilish, Marge, Dave, and others who gave me advice on dispensations. I have the names of the marriage sponsors and when I have more time I will work on their origins, which MAY lead me to a parish where I can check further. But that is for the future. TOPIC; Cecilia Crozier x 2 Dear FG Crew, I have previously raised the issue of my wife’s Great-Aunt Cecelia Crozier who I then suggested was born in 1823 in Fermanagh, possibly Magheracross. However a check of her marriage certificate dated 1857 lists her age as 26, so the new birth year must be 1831. Her parents (along with my wife’s Great Grandfather Andrew ) were John Crozier and Elizabeth Beatty/Beattie. I have also discovered another Cecelia Crozier who was born on 12 Feb 1839 in Enniskillen. Her parents were John Crozier and Catherine Beattie. She came to Australia and married John Jones and died in 1921. The co-incidence is so great, I think the two Cecelia’s must be related! If anyone is related or has found any Cecelia in your trees I would love to hear from you. If you are living in Fermanagh we could call in and have a cup of tea in Ballinmallard on M23/5, Irvinestone T24/5 or W25/5 in Kesh, or anywhere close by. Janet, In my family I found children living with aunts and uncles. In the 1902 census, my Acheson great aunts were living with their Nixon aunt and uncle. i.e.their Mom's brother's family. One of their cousins, Annabella, who was six and had lost her mother, was living in this Nixon home as well. Annabella was back living with her widower father in the 1911 census. I am sure the older girls, my great aunts, pulled their weight doing chores. The household had an 80 year old widow who likely needed help or support. Another household I saw had a 5 year old grandson visiting. His mother, a recent widow, had several other children. One of the widow's great grandsons is now a member of parliament in Canada with extra responsibilities. (I digress; I have had fun tracking these people) The widow joined sons in Canada. It was heartwarming to see how families were taking care of each other. It was a great feeling to know that when my great gran had fallen on difficult times, her brother took in her daughters. Just some ideas for you. Maybe you have looked and not found them. Rob, THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! AND MY APOLOGIES FOR NOT READING FURTHER THE FIRST TIME. That is EXACTLY what I am looking for. I was tired and frustrated from trying to find the seminary and then realizing that I had contacted them years ago to no avail. Good thing though (that I had previously contacted them) as it is no longer a seminary and the records would now be in the diocesan archives. I had already been in touch with the archivist regarding another record, only to find out that they are no longer allowing personal access to their records nor can (or will) they search records for genealogical purposes! That was just a few months ago. I doubt things have changed. I am so sorry. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Yes Dave but traveling until next week. May be able to check in a few days. Last name is Darby and parents were William and Jane Anne McDonnell. James Darby born about 1884 and a girl 2 years later. I know no help without first name. All subsequent infants died in infancy. Marge, Find out where the diocesan seminary was that he would have attended. The diocesan website may have some biog info on him also that would tell where he went. Then write and ask for his record.
