It showed me the Magheracross/Kilskeery 1766 Religious census records haven’t survived!! This means it’s still possible the Moffit family may have lived in Magheracross in 1766 & the 1788 William Moffatt may still link back to the 1721 William Moffit on the Archdale Estate. I’ll just have to try & find another way to link these two dates. Any suggestions?? Thanks again Dave, Carole E. >

    3. All, I agree with you, Janet! I am printing all the townland maps for my family, so that when I am in Fermanagh in early May I can see what each townland looks like. Many old family houses are used as barns and sheds. I hope to be able to find them. The 1901 census tells names and types of houses in a townland and is very useful as well. In 1901, for example, a 70 year old who is listed, would have been around when my relatives left in 1840 or 1848. So, we must not discount use of the 1901 free census (google Irish census) Anne -----Original Message----- From: caiside via Sent: Monday, March 21, 2016 9:11 AM To: [email protected] ; [email protected] >> Killyfole and District Development Association Subject: FERMANAGH-GOLD Townland maps Clive, WOW! 3. Some independent Censii were actually done by Ministers too in order to find out how many should be paying tithes. They actually did everyone regardless of religion in the Parish so they could work out how much they should collect. I posted about them a while back with Parishes, Dates etc and should be in Archives and on Clogher Record.. Andrew Hamilton, was forced to flee at the rebellion in 1641. In 1660 he returned and petitioned to the authorities "that he was in 1640 by Letters Patent presented and inducted into the Parish of Kilskeery, in Co. Tyrone, and Magheracross in Co. Fermanagh, and possessed them till expelled by the rebellion". In his absence Kilskeery is disposed of to Mr. James Graham, and Magheracross to Mr. Robert Auld. Magheracross was united to Kilskeery on 30 Jan., 1629 Magheracross was disunited from Kilskeery on 28 May, 1766 DH On 21/03/2016 07:01, [email protected] wrote: > Re: FERMANAGH-GOLD 1766 Religious Census - only Derryvullan > North?. > To: Janet Cassidy via<[email protected]> > Message-ID:<[email protected]> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 > >> >A marvellous resource for all queries. > The genealogy 'bible'http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/ >> > >> >http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/1766-religious-census.html > Thank you so much Dave for your above toolkit link. > It showed me the Magheracross/Kilskeery 1766 Religious census records haven?t survived!! > > This means it?s still possible the Moffit family may have lived in Magheracross in 1766 & the > 1788 William Moffatt may still link back to the 1721 William Moffit on the Archdale Estate. > I?ll just have to try & find another way to link these two dates. > > Any suggestions?? > Thanks again Dave, > Carole E. >> > --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

    3. Shirley, The split was most likely the result of an ecclesiastical reshuffle of Dioceses and parishes. Just cannot remember when or why that happened but my uncles and my mother used to discuss it when I was a small child. Uncle Bob lived in Trillick which they argued was in Fermanagh before it was in Tyrone. Pettigo was another town divided between two counties Fermanagh and Donegal. Viola

    3. Hi, Carole and others, The New Brunwick land record shows that my Simon and Mathew Graham were born in County Tyrone and came to NB in 1819 from County Fermanagh. With the help of others on this list, we have narrowed the place in County Fermanagh to Knockmanoul, in Magheracross Parish. I have a hunch that Kilskeery in County Tyrone might be their place of birth. So I would be interested in finding more source material for these areas. And, I don't really understand the 1766 split of Magheracross from Kilskeery. Can anyone help? Thanks.
