    3. Thank you for suggesting Cathriona as a source. I now have her on the list of people to consult. James -----Original Message----- From: Dave H. via Sent: Saturday, April 2, 2016 4:53 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: FERMANAGH-GOLD Parish of Roslea But people didn't have to attend their Parish Church, so where they lived as such is irrelevant... I can show you plenty of records where people attended a Church in next Parish or even the next, going back to early 1800's. Where I live the RC Church is on the bank of the river, the river is Parish boundary... the next Church is 5 miles away OR 3 miles away over another bridge but in another County! The people on opposite side of river don't travel 5 miles to the Church in their Parish or 3 miles to the one in another county! You then have a couple who marry, maybe get land to lease 3 mile away in another Parish, do they get children baptised in that Parish.... or the 'home' Parish? As to your questions..... the likes of Cathriona at the Library would be who to ask, she's the County Historian! 3. Hello Janet and Bruce, I, too, am delighted that the subject of the Pict enigma is not off topic :-) And thanks to all who have recently posted links to the latest data, many of we Golders are a mixture of these races with the delineation lines so blurred between them. Particularly when we know that one or more lines come down from the sea kingdom of Dalriada and the fact that Irish invaded Scotland in the distant past. Not just invasions, but the normal Irish Sea crossings of traders from all the tribes which made up the British isles. David, your Orkneyjar link is terrific, it helps to shed some light on the puzzle - and the Orkney dig site just gets more amazing each season. My half-brother recently had his dna results from Ancestry, no surprises except 12% Irish - I have long toyed with the notion that our Viking ancestor Fulkar who arrived in England about 800ad came across from Dublin and joined the Great Pagan Army rather than the continent, apparently many Vikings did so. My son David will be next to test, later I shall have my mitochondrial tested and that should give us further insight into the mixture we all carry. Loving the chase! :) Dee. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of caiside via Sent: Saturday, 2 April 2016 11:08 PM To: Bruce Graham; [email protected] Subject: Re: FERMANAGH-GOLD Fwd: Origins of the Irish -- not Celtic? Dee, Glad no one is thinking this little side-trip into Pictland is off topic. :-) Here's what I just read on the orkneyjar link that David sent: " Theories abound, although these days it is generally accepted that the Picts were not, as was once believed, a new race, but were simply the descendents of the indigenous Iron Age people of northern Scotland." Also here http://www.ancient.eu/picts/ says "Although it was accepted history in the past to date the arrival of the Picts in Scotland to sometime shortly before their mention in Roman history, or to claim a "Pictish Invasion", modern scholarship offers a much earlier date with no full-scale invasion. According to the/Collins Encyclopedia of Scotland/, "the Picts did not 'arrive' - in a sense they had always been there, for they were the descendants of the first people to inhabit what eventually became Scotland" (775). Historian Stuart McHardy supports this claim,***writing <http://www.ancient.eu/writing/>**that "the Picts were in fact the indigenous population of this part of the world" by the time the Romans arrived in Britain (32). They originally came from**Scythia <http://www.ancient.eu/scythia/>***(Scandinavia), settled first in Orkney, and then migrated south." I bet Cunliffe's book _Britain Begins_ would shed light. There are also Methodists, but since Methodism started within the C of I, I'd still start looking in the C of I church records. Sorry I can't help with Crasgrith. Are you sure it's spelled correctly? 3. I have a family assinment for a reunion that will take place in July. We are hoping to trace our great-great-great grandparents.  We are searching for a couple, Thomas and Isabella (Noble) Walker that emigrated to Quebec Canada in 1845 with their son, John Walker (b. 1842). The birth date that I have for Isabella Noble is 25 May 1822 and Thomas Walker is estimated to be around 1811-1812.  The family story states that two weeks after arriving from Ireland that Isabella gave birth to Jane Ann Walker on the 15th of June 1845.  The family appears on the Canadian Census of 1851 living in Harvey, Albert County, New Brunswick, Canada. I have noted other questions coming from people whose families immigrated to New Brunswick.  Thomas Walker passed away sometime around 1854-1855. They had four more children born in Canada before Thomas died. Isabella Noble Walker remarried George Newcomb and had 4 more daughters. They resided in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. In a geneology book about the Newcombs published in 1874, it is stated that Isabella (widow of Thomas Walker) was the daughter of Charles Noble and Jane Crasgrith of Derry-hony, Ireland.  The name Crasgrith is non-existant from all of my searches. I did locate the Townland of Derryhoney in Fermanagh. There are Nobles and Walkers in the area. They were most likely Protestant but I am unsure if they were Presbyterians or Church of Ireland.  Does anyone have any tips that might give me insight into the name Crasgrith? Anyone have any family details of Walkers and/or Nobles from near Derryhoney that might fit with this timeframe?  Thank you, Catherine
