Hello Michael and Eilish! Michael, you and I are related. I would think that your John's father was Daniel Keown and one of John's brothers was Dean Keown of St Patrick's Purgatory. Duffy's also lived at Cornahilta, so it is possible that John married one of this branch. Please let me know what you need and I shall try to help. All the above are Catholic. I did not receive your original post for some reason or other, so thank you so much cousin Eilish for asking the question re religion, as I would have otherwise missed Michael's post! Re : An historical account of the plantation in Ulster at the commencement of the seventeenth century, 1608-1620 / by the Rev. George Hill, published 1877 This is a good online version of it as you can search online for text within the book. http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=inu.39000005856708;view=1up;seq=7 May give further understanding of the early days of the plantation. Hi all, The following link contains an image of the 1609 Bodley Map, Escheated Counties. The one of the baronies pictured is the modern day "Tirkennedy Barony" and I would love to get a look at it. http://www.enniskillencastle.co.uk/collections/fermanagh-100-objects/ plantation-and-new-settlers/ Would anyone have a better resolution scan or photograph of this map? My favorite tool for screenshots is SnagIt. You can capture a region that appears on your screen. But it also has the ability to **scroll** --- allowing you to capture a long (or wide) images.
If you use a Mac, you can get “screen grabs” of anything you see on the screen: Command/Apple + Shift + 3 Grabs everything visible on the screen Command/Apple + Shift + 4 Grabs just the selected area (outlined by clicking and dragging the box that appears) Another tool I find really handy to preserve those gems I find when doing genealogy is to “pin” the location of something I find and select an image as the visual icon to represent it using PINTEREST. This application is free, easy to install and handy for all sorts of things from planning a vacation, to finding Christmas gifts, saving recipes to headstones pictures. You create virtual “cork boards” to which you “pin" little icons (so you’ll remember what caught your eye in the first place) and then just click the little icon that shows up on your web browser tool bar, select the available images to represent the web page, and the board you want to put it on. It doesn’t save anything on your computer, but the URL of the site where you found something interesting online in your pinterest account, so you can return to it later. It’s interesting to wander through others boards to see what THEY have found! Examples: https://www.pinterest.com/summitsandy/genealogy/ https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=genealogy&rs=typed&0=genealogy%7Ctyped https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=cemeteries&rs=typed&0=cemeteries%7Ctyped Sandy
Indeed Snipping tool is good, sometimes I want to add a snippet to something I already have. Newspaper items I just stick into one Paint file (as jpeg) so I might have 10 or more together. DH Re: FERMANAGH-GOLD screenshots as JPEG Date: Wed, 6 Apr 2016 08:19:38 +1000 References: <[email protected]> In-Reply-To: <[email protected]> Hi Dave and Robyn. I find the "snipping tool" very easy to use for information I want off the screen. Just start snipping tool, click new, screen fades, highlight area to be copied, go file, save as, give it a name done. Here women brought their dowry with them, Cattle/Money etc. If one watches The Quiet Man, for example, she brings furniture and money with her. This would be typical. There were a few dowries posted on FG a while back and about the value of the Cattle as part of dowry. Then there is the HIGHLY romantic marriage proposal.. "Would you like to be buried with my kin?"
